Our NHL odds consultant shares his two top totals selections on Saturday’s card. Go inside to find out what those picks are and why he’s chosen them.

Washington Capitals vs. Winnipeg Jets 3:05 PM ET
Braden Holtby is once again slated to be in goal tonight for Washington. Holtby has been superb in his last four starts, evidenced by his stellar .930 save percentage. As a matter of fact, he’s been terrific all season, compiling a very good .927 save percentage in twenty starts, and posting two shutouts.

Despite a 6-1 home win in their previous game against Toronto, Winnipeg has gone 5-1 under the total during its last six games on home ice. The Jets have also gone 19-7 (73.1%) under the total during the past three seasons, following a home win by 4 goals or more. The Winnipeg is in desperate need of more consistent goaltending, and better play in its own zone. Heading into this afternoon’s contest, they’re allowing a poor 3.1 goals per game. The Jets are hoping recently called up Connor Hellebucyk is the answer to their goaltending woes. The youngster has made two starts since his recall, and has compiled a stellar .958 save percentage.

Any home team (Jets) with a total of 5.5, coming off a win by 4 goals or more, and is allowing an average of 2.85 or more goals per games, resulted in those contests going 70-33 (68%) under the total since 1997. I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my NHL picks on Saturday will be reflective of that sentiment. I like this game to be a low scoring affairs, and one of my Saturday NHL picks will follow suit.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild 8:05 PM ET
Both of these teams enter Saturday’s game on modest two game win streaks. Colorado. is coming off a pair of 2-1 wins over the Devils and Rangers. Minnesota earned victories of 2-1 over Chicago and 1-0 against Toronto. Devan Dubnyk is slated to be in goal on Saturday for Minnesota. Dubnyk started each of Minnesota’s last two games, and stopped 58 of 59 (.983) shots on goal. Since the start of last season, these teams have gone 4-1-1 under the total in their six encounters against one another.

Any team (Colorado) coming off two straight one goal wins, versus an opponent (Minnesota) coming off two straight games in which there were a combined 3 goals or less being scored, resulted in those contests going 31-14 (68.9%) under the total since 1997.
