The NHL has a full slate of 10 games to choose from on Tuesday night with the highlight matchup being the Tampa Bay-Philadelphia contest, which will be featured on NBC Sports Network. Here’s a look at that game along with two others for Tuesday night.
Calgary Flames at Detroit Red Wings
The Calgary Flames continue to be a nightmare this season, as they are still stuck on just one win. While they entered the season with hopes of squeaking in to the postseason, they are in fact the worst team in the NHL right now. The Flames latest loss will be particularly stinging as they gave up the game-tying goal with 2.3 seconds left in the third period and then lost in a shootout.
What’s worse is that the Flames have played all but one of their games at home this season. They have played in just one road game – a 3-2 shootout loss in Vancouver – which is the fewest in the NHL.
On Tuesday, they’ll head to Detroit to face a Red Wings team that is 3-1-0 at home. While I don’t like the juice on the NHL odds in this matchup, I’ll lay the extra puck as the Red Wings should be able to get the job done here.
NHL Pick: Red Wings -1.5 +185
New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils
The New York Rangers started the season with just one win in four tries but they’ve since gotten back on track. They’ve now won three of four and have looked pretty good in the process. They have allowed just eight goals over those four games with three coming in the lone loss.
On Tuesday, they’ll take their show on the road to New Jersey to face a Devils team that’s coming out of a slump. The Devils beat the New York Islanders 3-0 on Sunday but prior to that had lost four straight.
I see this two teams as basically equally as the Rangers have a slight edge in talent but the Devils have a slight edge playing at home. However, the Rangers come into this game with momentum as they’re playing well while the Devils are not. Given that the odds for this game are at a PICK, I’ll add the Rangers into my sports picks for Tuesday.
NHL Pick: Rangers -110
Tampa Bay Lightning at Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers have struggled to start the season but bettors should note that they’ve already played six road games. No team has played more away games to this point of the season. While the Flyers are a paltry 1-5-0 on the road, they are a respectable 2-1-0 at home.
The Lightning should be ready to go back to Anders Lindback in net on Tuesday after going with Mathieu Garon on Saturday. Garon has given up just four goals in two starts this year while Lindback has allowed 3.33 per game.
I believe that the total holds the best value for our NHL picks in this battle, and being that both teams can score, I like the Over. Tampa Bay leads the league with 39 goals while the Flyers are coming off their best offensive effort of the season with a 5-3 win over Carolina. Look for lots of goals in this one.
NHL Pick: Over 6
