There are 10 games to choose from today with your NHL picks, so let's make our selections count.

Monday Recap

Four of the five favorites won last night, with Pittsburgh the only underdog to cash. The Penguins topped Ottawa 3-1 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Winnipeg scraped out a hard-fought 2-1 road win over Buffalo to keep their playoff hopes alive, while Detroit picked up a huge 4-0 home win over Phoenix.

Elsewhere, Anaheim beat Edmonton (3-0) for the second game in as many nights and Vancouver recorded an impressive 3-1 win over Chicago as -110 favorites on the NHL odds board.

Early Tuesday Preview

We've got some humongous favorites back on the list tonight after a night that was filled with closely-contested mathchups in terms of the odds.

This evening you can find the likes of the New York Rangers favored at -230 for their road game with the Florida Panthers, while the St. Louis Blues are listed at -240 at home over the Colorado Avalanche.

The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in the league, having won three in a row and five of their last six. They're 8-3 over their last 11, with all three losses coming on the road (Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Philadelphia).

The odds are this steep for a reason. Florida has dropped six straight games and in those defeats they've been outscored 30-8, while losing each game by at least two goals.

Considering the fact New York still has plenty to play for, you have to like their chances of overcoming the Panthers, who have been the league's worst team this season at 13-26-6.

Ditto for St. Louis. They should be able to take care of the Avalanche here, though there's much more value available on the puck line.

The Blues are 7-3 over their last 10 games, while Colorado has gone 3-15-4 on the road. With St. Louis trying to fend off the likes of Minnesota, Columbus, and Detroit for a playoff spot in the Western Conference spot, look for a high-energy performance from Chris Stewart and company.

Obviously there are much better games, in terms of competitiveness, on the schedule tonight. We're looking forward to Washington/Winnipeg, Minnesota/Los Angeles, and San Jose/Dallas.

The Jets, 6-3-1 over their last 10, are making a final push for the postseason and are currently just one point away from a spot. They'll have their hands full in the nation's capital tonight though, with Washington (favored at -170) at 9-1 over their last 10. Alex Ovechkin, who leads the NHL with 30 goals, is on fire right now and the rest of the Capitals are following lead.

We are intrigued by Minnesota's home date with the Los Angeles Kings as well. At the moment the Wild are the underdogs at +100, while the Kings are quoted at -120. Minnesota is still fighting tooth and nail for a spot in the playoffs, so they may be a tough team to fade in this spot despite their recent struggles.

Finally there's the Sharks, who will entertain Dallas as a -180 favorite tonight. The Stars have dropped two in a row to severely hurt their chances, but a win in San Jose would go a long way, that's for sure.

Pittsburgh/Buffalo

Mike Richardson will share his free picks for this game later on in the day. The Penguins have won seven consecutive matchups and are sure to be hefty favorites when the odds are released for this one.

Both teams were in action last night, but in the end it's hard to go against a red-hot team like Pittsburgh at this juncture.
