Two lower-level Eastern Conference teams will meet up on Friday night when the Florida Panthers visit the Carolina Hurricanes. These former Southeast Division foes have been heading in opposite directions recently, so projecting the winner could be straightforward.

The Florida Panthers Can Win Because…

Carolina has dropped two of three and their offense has gone cold. The Hurricanes have scored

Just four goals in their last three games and two of them were at home. It’s tough to win games when that’s all your offense is giving you.

They’ve had a tough time scoring all season long, especially at home where they average just 2.47 goals per game (24th in the NHL). Florida could have a real shot to cash for your sports picks here if this is a low-scoring affair.

The Carolina Hurricanes Can Win Because….

The Panthers are slumping. They’ve lost four of five, five of seven and seven of 11. One of those losses was a 3-2 defeat in Carolina. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have been playing well since switching from Cam Ward to Anton Khudobin as their lead goaltender. They’ve won 10 of 15 with him between the pipes and he’s 12-5-0 on the season with a 2.15 GAA. That gives him a GAA better than Jaroslav Halak, Jonathan Quick and Marc-Andre Fleury.

It’s true that the Hurricanes struggle on offense but they can take solace in the fact that Florida has even bigger issues. They’ve average just 2.30 goals per game on the road this season. This is a very manageable game for the Hurricanes.

Outlook & Pick

For the side, the Hurricanes make the most sense for your NHL picks but the juice is too high for me. Instead, I’ll go under the NHL odds as both teams are having trouble putting the biscuit in the basket, while Khudobin has been solid between them pipes.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bookmaker
