The Blackhawks host the Jets on Sunday at the United Center in Chicago with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. Can NHL bettors find any value in this matchup, and if so, who is offering the best price?

According to the NHL odds Chicago is a -235 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5.  Chicago has won the last 7 meetings between these two clubs. These teams have seen 5 of their last 6 meetings go over the total.

Jets Flying High

The Jets come off a roller coaster of emotions in last night’s 5-4 overtime home win versus Toronto. The Jets squandered a 4-1 lead, allowed the Leafs to tie the game with just 1:33 to play in the 3rd period, and then subsequently won it on an overtime goal by Dustin Byfuglien 2:44 into the extra session. Winnipeg has now won 5 of their last 6-games. They’ve scored 5-goals or more in 3 of those last 6-games, and allowed 2-goals or less in 5 of those 6 contests.

Playing on Short Rest

Tonight will be the Jets 3rd game in the last 4-days, and 4th in the last 6-days. Winnipeg is a dismal 12-39 in their last 51-games when playing with no rest. They’ve won just 19 of their last 59 when playing their 3rd game in 4-days, and only 21 of their last 71 when playing their 4th in 6-days. The Jets have gone over in their last 4-games when playing with no rest, and gone over in their last 5 when playing their 3rd game in 4-days. Winnipeg enters today last in the 7-team Central Division, and is 12th overall in the Western Conference. On a positive note they’re just 8-points behind Vancouver for the 8th and final playoff spot in the West.

Mid-Season Funk in Chicago

Chicago enters tonight having lost their last 2, and 8 of their last 13. For the majority of teams in the NHL a streak such as this would fly under the radar. However, when you’re the defending Stanley Cup champions, all that takes place in the following season is highly scrutinized. The silver lining is that 6 of those 8 losses in the last 13-games occurred in overtime. As a result the Hawks have still earned at least 1-point in 11 of their last 13-games.

Back Home and Rested

After a brief 2-game road trip the Hawks return home, and will be playing on 2 full days of rest. The good news is that Chicago has gone 45-17 versus the money line in their last 62 home games, and 40-13 in the last 53 at the United Center versus an opponent that has money line losing record for the season. Chicago has lost just 3 of their first 28 home games this season during regulation time. The bad news is that the Hawks are just 1-4 in their last 5 versus the money line when playing on exactly 2-days of rest. The Hawks lead the Central Division by 1-point over the 2nd place St. Louis Blues, and are 2nd overall in the Western Conference 7-points behind the front running Anaheim Ducks.

NHL Betting System

For our NHL picks in this matchup we will look to a strong betting trend which states that any home team with a total of 5.5 playing in the 2nd half of the season that converts on 17.5% or better on the power play, and they’ve had 30 shots or more on goal in each of their last 5-games, has seen 38 of those 55-games (69.1%) go over the total since the beginning of the 1996-1997 year.

Free Pick: Winnipeg/Chicago to go over the total of 5.5
