Buffalo Sabres vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Maybe it’s a bit of a longshot on the NHL odds but I think the Sabres are worth a look in this spot. It’s not so much a play on the Sabres as it is a bet against Carolina. The fact of the matter is that Carolina is one of the worst teams in the NHL, has lost seven of nine, and is laying -200 in this spot. Yes, Buffalo sucks but Carolina shouldn’t be laying this kind of number against anyone right now. I’ll take a small flier with the Sabres.
NHL Pick: Sabres +181 at Pinnacle
San Jose Sharks vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets have been playing with some pep to their step as they’ve won five of six. Aside from an ugly 6-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, they’ve only allowed seven goals in their last five.
In my eyes, San Jose is a shaky road bet as they have dropped three of their last five away games. While that’s not all too bad, the problem is that those losses have come to teams like Buffalo, Calgary and Edmonton, which means you’ve probably lost about -200 each time if you’ve been taking them with your sports picks. On the year, the Sharks are just 17-16 when away while the Blue Jackets have won five straight at home. I’ll take a shot with them as a home dog.

Edmonton Oilers vs. St. Louis Blues
The Blues have been cashing in with unders recently as each of their last four games have stayed below 5.5 goals (and also six of eight). On Thursday, they’ll be hosting the Edmonton Oilers, who have only managed to score two goals in two meetings with St. Louis this season and just seven goals in the last seven in this series.
With the Blues coming off a loss, I’ll look for them to tighten things up and muzzle the Oilers once more. Take the under with your NHL picks.
