The Thursday schedule is our second-last big card of the season. We’ll see 11 games on Thursday followed by 13 on Saturday. There are just four games on Friday and one on Sunday.

Here’s a look at our favorite NHL picks for Thursday night

Record: 141-158 (-544)

Take a look at our Morning NHL Betting Odds Report

Nashville Predators vs. Detroit Red Wings

Nashville has had a really tough time with Detroit recently as they’ve lost the last two meetings while getting shut out both games (7-0). On top of that, Trashville has been abysmal recently as they’ve lost seven of eight while getting shut out three times in the process.

Detroit is in dire need of points, so look for them to take advantage of a hapless Preds squad. They have won two straight while outscoring their opponents 7-1, so they’ll have some momentum heading into this game.

NHL Pick: Red Wings -1.5 +165 at Bookmaker

Calgary Flames vs. St. Louis Blues

The Flames have been playing well recently but the Blues have been even better. The Blues have won nine of 12 and have held opponents to one goal or less in four straight home games.

The Blues hot streak has coincided with the acquisition of Jay Bouwmeester, who they acquired from the Flames. The Blues defense has improved significantly since his arrival and in turn, the goaltending has been stellar too. Brian Elliott has a 1.14 GAA over his last nine starts and has a 1.83 GAA in five career matchups with the Flames. This looks like a reasonable spot to take a flier on the Blues.

NHL Pick: Blues -125 at BetOnline

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers

The Maple Leafs are in a back-to-back situation but matchups with the Lightning and Panthers aren’t too taxing these days. The Leafs have been playing fairly well over the last month and they are worth a look in this spot against a Panthers team that is the worst in the NHL.

The Leafs have won both meetings with the Panthers this season and while they lost last night in Tampa Bay, I see this as an opportunity to take the better team at a cheap price.
