NHL Betting: Thursday Picks
Record: 83-92 (-335)
Americans (and NHL Network subscribers) will get to see the Washington-Carolina while NHL fans north of the border will have to tune in to RDS and TSN for their coverage as the two networks have the Pittsburgh-Toronto and Nashville-Vancouver matchups, respectively.
Phoenix Coyotes at St. Louis Blues
I like the over in this contest as it looks to me like the NHL odds makers still haven’t picked up on these two teams. Traditionally, you would think under with both sides but the Blues are third in scoring in the West while the Coyotes are fourth.
I think these teams should be facing more totals of 5.5 but I’ll take the over and hope to take advantage on Thursday's NHL picks.
NHL Picks: Over 5 at Bovada
Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild
I’ll take a shot with the under in this matchup as Colorado has had plenty of trouble scoring on the road. In their last six away games overall, they’ve managed just 10 goals. In their last seven trips to Minnesota, they’ve scored just 10 goals.
Semyon Varlamov has a 1.61 GAA against Minnesota over his last five starts while Nik Backstrom has a 1.77 GAA in his last nine against colorado. Take the under.
NHL Picks: Under 5 at Bodog
Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto’s defense and goaltending have gone awry as they’ve given up a whopping 29 goals in their last seven games. That includes the five they gave up to Pittsburgh last Saturday.
The Pens are the highest scoring team in the NHL, which means we’re going to see goals in this game. While I think the over is a good play in this contest, this is one spot where I’m comfortable laying a bit of juice and taking the Pens.
