After a quiet night on Monday that saw just one game in the NHL, Tuesday gets busy with 22 teams in action. We’ve sifted through the 11-game card and zeroed in on three games for our NHL picks. Here they are:
St. Louis Blues vs. Boston Bruins
Odds: Bruins -115
The St. Louis Blues have arguably been the hottest team in the NHL over the last three weeks and that lends itself to betting them in this spot. They have won 10 of their last 11 games with their only loss coming at home to the Nashville Predators. In that time, the Blues have not allowed more than three goals in any game and have given up an average of just 1.82 in that span.
The Bruins are a good team – especially at home – but their blue line is banged up (no Zdeno Chara) and while they’re coming off a win, they actually got thumped in their two prior games by a count of 10-2. The Blues are worth a look here as a road dog on the NHL betting odds.
NHL Pick: Blues +104 at 5Dimes
San Jose Sharks vs. Buffalo Sabres
Odds: Sharks -250
The San Jose Sharks are a massive -250 favorite in Buffalo on Tuesday night and it’s pretty easy to see why. The Sabres have been terrible. Their latest ugly stretch has seen them drop eight of 10, losing by an average of 3.13 goals per game in that span.
While I’m not going to lay this type of juice with the Sharks as they’re on the road – again – because the Sabres are 15-1 all-time at home versus San Jose. And also, the Sharks are not as strong away from home as they are at the Shark Tank, under should be a good NHL pick.
The Sabres are coming of a 6-2 win over Toronto but prior to that, had scored just eight goals in their previous five games. As for the Sharks, they haven’t scored more than two goals in any of their last five games while scoring just eight goals in the process. That being the case, expect a low-scoring affair in this one and go under the number.
NHL Pick: Under 5 at The Greek
Nashville Predators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Odds: Leafs -120
The Maple Leafs registered an impressive three-game winning streak last week, scoring 16 goals in the process while topping the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins. However, they’ve since lost two in a row and have looked pretty bad in the process. The challenge for them is offense. When they can score in bunches, they’re competitive. When they can’t get to three, four or five goals, they tend to lose as their defense is weak.
The Predators are the league’s second-best defensive team, allowing just 2.00 goals per game this season. They should be able to keep the Leafs under wraps. The Preds are also the hotter of the two teams as they enter Tuesday’s affair having won four of five. Take a shot with them as a road dog.
