There are four games on the card on Wednesday night and we’ve got everything covered for you. We’ve got the Edmonton-Anaheim preview separated off in its own preview and below, we’ve got picks for the other three games on the NHL betting card.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres
Odds: Maple Leafs -120
This is one heck of an ugly matchup as two of the worst teams in the NHL will meet up in this showdown. And as hard as it is to believe, both are coming off a win. The Toronto Maple Leafs somehow beat the Tampa Bay Lightning last night while the Buffalo Sabres topped the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.
The Maple Leafs have won two straight but those are their only two wins in their last nine games. The Sabres have just two wins in their last seven. It’s ugly, it’s one of the worst games to cap, so I’ll take a shot with the dog. The Sabres have won four of their last five at home against Toronto.
NHL Pick: Sabres +110 at 5Dimes
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Odds: Penguins -210
The Philadelphia Flyers don’t have many wins in the last couple of weeks, which makes it tough to have any faith in them in this spot – even though they typically dominate Pittsburgh. The Flyers have dropped nine of their last 11 games and they’ve allowed 3.4 goals per game over their last five. As for Pittsburgh, how interested are you in laying a bunch of juice against a team that typically dominates them, knowing they’ve dropped six of nine.
The Flyers have won five of their last six visits to Pittsburgh and four of the last six have gone over, but I’ll go under in this one. The Flyers are the 10th-lowest scoring team this month at 2.31 goals per game in March while Pittsburgh is seventh-fewest at 2.20. This is a tough game to figure out but I’ll go under in this one with my NHL picks.
NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Bookmaker
Colorado Avalanche vs. San Jose Sharks
Odds: Sharks -150
While this looks like an even matchup on paper, the challenge here is that the Avs don’t play well at the Shark Tank. They have just one win in their last 15 trips to San Jose and are 0-8-4 in their last 12 regular season visits.
However, the flip side of it is that the Sharks have dropped 10 of their last 13 at home and have averaged just 2.0 goals per game over their last nine in front of their own audience. Their offense has disappeared this month as they’ve scored two goals or less in nine of their last 11.
This is a fairly messy game to handicap and while San Jose probably wins here, the juice here is not worth the risk. Instead, I’ll go under which is listed as 5.5 on the NHL betting odds; based on how the Sharks have been scoring at home lately. Under is also 10-6 when the Sharks are at home with a total of 5.5 and 17-10 when the Avs are on the road with the same total.
