A very nice full slate of games on the ice for Hump Day with the sportsbooks posting NHL betting odds on 13 contests. However, many very tight matchups and I truly only found three for NHL picks.

Ten of the contests listed have NHL odds of -145 or less on the money line and two of the three bigger favorites are not playing very well, and their opponents are equal or worse.

We broke out of our brief Tuesday slump and squeezed out a profit on NHL picks yesterday and will be out to accomplish the same today. The odds mentioned in this article are from Wagerweb.ag and with no dropping of the pucks tomorrow, this hockey handicapper will be back on Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Columbus to Upset New Jersey
After 0-8 start to the season, Columbus (8-14 SU) is playing respectable hockey, winning eight of 14 since. The change to John Tortorella as coach has increased awareness of virtually every player on the roster, but the one who has seen the greater impact is curious in goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Make no mistake, Tortorella tightening up the Blue Jackets defense helps his guys between the pipes, however, it has been Bobrovsky, who is not making some of the mistakes he was earlier to really help his team.

New Jersey (11-9 SU) is back home after a 1-2 western swing. The take away from the trip was the defense let the Devils down in surrendering 10 goals.

New Jersey is a -130 favorite over Columbus at home and has special team's edge coming it this matchup. The Devils have a power play goal in five consecutive games, while the Jackets are on an ugly 0-11 stretch with a man advantage. Nevertheless, I prefer the Jackets who are 9-4 when the total is five or less and they are 5-0 this season having lost two of three.

Free NHL Pick: Columbus +113 at 5Dimes

Home Cookin' Makes Minnesota Winner
Minnesota (11-8 SU) recently completed a four-game road trip and it was dismal, losing three times. Upon returning to Excel Energy Center, the Wild had plenty of energy and mashed Nashville 4-0 on Saturday. That brought Minnesota's home record to superb 8-1, the best in the Western Conference.

The Wild's recipe for success is fast starts and when they score first this season they are 9-1. Minnesota is a -145 favorite over Vancouver (8-14 SU), who is in beastly scheduling spot. This is the Canucks opening tilt of a four-game road trip, which is on the heels of playing seven of nine on the road.

Minnesota has a respectable power play, good enough for them to be 10th in the league at 20.3 percent and should have scoring chances versus the Canucks gracious penalty killers, who have allowed 11 goals in the 36 most recent times they were man down. I'll use the Wild for NHL picks.

Washington Whips Wobbly Winnipeg
Backing the Capitols at -200 does require a certain amount of courage since they are only 4-3 in their last seven contests. The Washington (14-6 SU) offense has been feast or famine in this period, registering two or fewer goals five times and a total of 12 in the other two contests. And who was not a little jittery backing the Caps as -230 favorites on Monday in 1-0 win over Edmonton.

However, Winnipeg (10-12 SU) does not induce fear and while their 5-7 road record is not bad, they have only won once in last seven, giving Jets backers road rage.

Washington's Alex Ovechkin is often a playoff enigma, but against this franchise (formerly in Atlanta), the star winger has 42 goals in 57 games, the most against any opposing team and has also but together 42 assists.

With the Capitols second in the league in fewest shots allowed at 26, the Jets are unsightly 0-7 against teams conceding 26.5 or fewer shots on goal since last season.

Free NHL Pick: Washington -175 at Pinnacle
