Wednesday’s a quiet night in the NHL with just three games on the ice. Without much to pick and choose from, we decided to look at each of the three games and provide NHL picks for each of them.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Odds: Blackhawks -140
It might be an early line and it looks like SportsBetting probably has it wrong, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take advantage. The NHL betting odds opened the Blackhawks at -140 at Philadelphia and by my math, that line is about 60 cents off where it should be.
The Flyers are a complete gong show these days as they’ve dropped four straight and eight of nine. While most of those losses have come on the road, they are still just 5-5 in their last 10 at home. They are basically mailing in their season as they now the coach is gone and big changes should be coming.
As for the Blackhawks, they’re a Stanley Cup favorite and are playing like it these days. They’ve won nine of their last 12 games and have been playing excellent at the defensive end. They’ve allowed just 13 goals in their nine games this month. At -140, the Blackhawks are a no brainer here but expect this line to climb big time.
NHL Pick: Blackhawks -140 at BetOnline
Colorado Avalanche vs. Edmonton Oilers
Odds: Avalanche -165
It’s definitely tough to trust the Oilers in any scenario but it does look like they’ve shown a pulse of late at home. That makes this a spot where you might want to consider taking a shot with them. Edmonton has gone 2-0-2 in their last four, which indicates that they’ve been scrappy. Furthermore, while Avs goaltender Semyon Varlamov is playing well right now, he’s given up 13 goals in two straight losses to Edmonton. Over his last three visits there, he’s posted a 5.42 GAA.
The Oilers offense is doing pretty well as they’ve scored at least four goals in five of their last seven. If they can get to Varlamov and turn this into a shootout, they should have a decent chance of winning. Since they’re offering a big payout, I’ll take a flier with them.
NHL Pick: Oilers +145 at SportsInteraction
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames
Odds: Flames -130
This is an intriguing matchup as the Dallas Stars are six points back of the Calgary Flames for the eighth and final playoff spot and can close the gap to four with a win. Both the Stars and the Flames are playing well these days as the Stars have won eight of 11 and the Flames have gone 7-2-2 in their last 11.
I’m going to go with an over in this spot as the Stars bring in the Western Conference’s best offense as they score 3.08 goals per game. Meanwhile, the Flames have the league’s best offense this month as they’re scoring 3.45 goals per outing. Beyond that, six of the last seven meetings between the sides have gone over and this looks like another one.
Dallas can probably pull this one out but I’m going to stick with a total play in this one for my NHL picks.
NHL Pick: Over 5.5 at The Greek
