There are four games on the ice on Thursday with two of the series at 3-1, one at 2-2 and one at 2-1. It should be an exciting night of action and here’s our NHL picks from the card.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Detroit Red Wings
NHL odds: Lightning -105
The Tampa Bay Lightning have dominated this series in terms of offensive effort but it hasn’t translated into goals. On the series, they’ve outshot Detroit 98-59 and had six more power plays, yet they still have only one win to show for it. However, I don’t think this Lightning team is going to panic and logic suggests that they will finally break through. I think that happens tonight as the Lightning have their backs up against the wall somewhat. While Detroit has won two of the first three games, they still are averaging just 2.0 goals per game. Tampa Bay was the highest scoring team in the regular season. Look for them to find a way through, starting tonight. I know they are not a great road team but they need this one and should play with a sense of urgency. Take the Lightning with your NHL picks.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators
NHL odds: Blackhawks -105
The Blackhawks seem to have Nashville’s number as there really doesn’t seem to be anything the Predators can do to win the game. They’ve now held late third period leads in two of the four games, yet gone on to lose them both, which is why they are facing a 3-1 series deficit. Although they are now back at home and will be playing with their backs against the wall, I don’t that that changes the actual factors in this game. For starters, they are likely to be without Shea Weber and the team has lost six of their last seven without him.

The Blackhawks continue to beat Pekka Rinne for about three goals per game as they’ve hit that number in three of the four series games. Going back to the regular season, Rinne has now allowed at least three goals in eight of his last nine games.

It seems like the Preds are really up against it here, so I’ll take a shot with Chicago. They should be able to weather the early storm and eventually pull this one out.

Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks
NHL odds: Canucks -143
The Canucks have not played well in either of the last two games and it has cost them. However, they aren’t dead in the water just yet. The same formula applies: they still need to protect home ice and steal one in Calgary.

The issue for Vancouver is that they’ve taken a lot of stupid penalties the last couple of games and have lost their focus. However, this is a team that hasn’t lost three in a row since the middle of January, so I don’t expect it to happen here. I’d rather not lay a ton of juice but at -143, it’s a reasonable price to get in on the Canucks. They should take Game 5.
