We had a relatively productive Saturday night, cashing in with a pair of road teams while winning two of our three picks. Let’s see if we can keep momentum on Sunday when we’ve got three more road teams lined up.
New York Islanders vs. Dallas Stars
The New York Islanders couldn’t buy a win between November 19th and December 17th as they had just one win in the 14 games they played during that span. Nowadays, they can’t seem to lose as they’ve won three straight and six of seven. The Isles have done most of their damage on the road as they’ve cashed in six straight road games and seven of their last eight. They continue to get overlooked as a road dog as they were sizable road dogs in Colorado, Toronto, Boston, Minnesota, Detroit, New York (Rangers) and San Jose, yet they cashed in all of those venues.
In this spot, they are a no brainer for my sports picks. Not only are the Isles red hot, the Stars are ice cold. They’ve dropped five straight overall and have scored just six goals in their last four games. They have a losing record at home (9-11), so this looks like a good scenario to take another shot with the Isles as a road dog.

New Jersey Devils vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
In this pick, we’re going to go against the Toronto Maple Leafs as they’ve been terrible of late. They come into Sunday’s meeting with New Jersey as losers of four straight. The bigger issue is that they can’t keep their opponents from lighting the lamp as the Leafs have given up at least three goals in each of their last four games and have allowed an average of 3.89 goals per game over their last nine contests.
The Leafs have just 11 wins in their last 32 games, which – if extrapolated over a full season – would make them the second-worst team in the NHL. That being the case, I’ll take a shot with the Devils on the NHL odds. Toronto doesn’t deserve to be a -140 favorite at this point.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Rangers
I’m not particularly excited about laying -140 with the New York Rangers on Sunday – especially when you consider that they have just nine wins in their 22 home games this season. On the year, they are just 7-13 when at home with a total of five or less and if you’ve been betting them in every game in that scenario, you’re down 12.5 units.
The Flyers have won nine of their last 12 games and although they are coming off a loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday night, they have been the more consistent team (compared to the Rangers) over the last few weeks. They’re also offering up +120 for your NHL picks unlike the Rangers, who come with a -140 price tag. The Rangers are 6-13 this season against teams with a winning record. I’ll bet against them on Sunday.
