Our resident NHL handicapper has two puck-line selections today. Join us in reading his informative analysis on each of these contests illustrating why he likes these picks.
Columbus at “The Igloo” in Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday at 5:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, Pittsburgh -1.5 (+115) and Columbus +1.5 (-125) on the puck-line.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-0 home loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, and they’ll be playing their third game in the last four days versus the Penguins. The Pittsburgh Penguins will be playing on three days of rest since their win at Washington on Thursday.
The loss versus New Jersey marked their fifth consecutive defeat for Columbus, and they’ve been outscored by an average of 2.0 goals per game during that time. Sergei Bobrovsky is slated to be in goal today for Columbus, and he’ll be making his first start since January 21st. The veteran goaltender has been sidelined for an extended period of time due to a groin injury. It would be hard to imagine that he’ll be real sharp after such a long layoff, and having to face one of the more dynamic offensive teams (Pittsburgh) in the NHL.
Penguins riding a win Streak
The Pittsburgh Penguins enter Sunday’s game well rested and winners of their last three contests. They will also be out to revenge a pair of losses this season at the hands of Columbus, and seem to be catching the Jackets at the most opportune time.
Free NHL Pick: Play on Pittsburgh -1.5 (+115) on the puck-line over Columbus at 5Dimes
Lethargic Leafs Travel to Washington on Sunday
The Washington Capitals will entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, Washington is -1.5 (+120) and Toronto +1.5 (-130) on the puck-line. These teams have split their two meetings this season with each winning by identical scores of 6-2, and both games were played in Toronto. The Capitals have won in each of their last three games at home versus the Maple Leafs.
Road Futility of Epic Proportions
Toronto has lost fifteen consecutive games on the road versus the money line. The Leafs have managed to score only a combined nine goals in their previous nine away games. Toronto is coming off a 4-0 loss at Montreal on Saturday, and I don’t see any probability of them getting things turned around today versus a quality opponent like Washington. I’m calling for the home team to win this one in a decisive manner, and one of my NHL picks on Sunday will be indicative of that prediction.
Free NHL Pick: Play on Washington -1.5 (+120) on the puck-line over Toronto at Pinnacle.
