Our resident handicapper shares his two top NHL Picks on the totals for Saturday, focusing on Florida Panthers vs. Montreal Canadiens & Columbus Blue Jackets vs. St. Louis Blues.

Florida Panthers vs. Montreal Canadiens 7:05 PM ET
The NHL betting odds at 5Dimes has a posted total of 5.0 for this game. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these Atlantic Division rivals, and there was an average of 4.2 goals per contest scored in the first three encounters.

The Florida Panthers have seen just one of the previous seven games go over the total, and have allowed an average of only 1.7 goals per contest in their last seven. Roberto Luongo is slated to be in goal tonight for the Panthers, and he’s compiled a stellar .933 save percentage in his previous four starts.

Carey Price is enjoying the best season of his NHL career. He’s seen only eighteen of his sixty starts (30%) go over the total during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign, and has an outstanding .937 save percentage. Price has been extremely sharp in his last three starts, posting two shutouts, and compiling a brilliant .967 save percentage. Montreal has seen six of their previous eight at home stay under the total, and they’ve scored two goals or less in nine of the last thirteen games overall.

According to the NHL betting odds at Heritage, the posted total for this contest is 5.0. Since the start of the 2013-2014 NHL campaign, these teams have met three times, and each of those games went over the total with an average of 7.0 goals per contest scored. They’ve met once this season on February 6th, and Columbus was a 7-1 blowout winner at home.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been an explosive offensive team recently, averaging a robust 4.3 goals per game over their last seven contests. Columbus has gone over the total in four of their previous five games, and has seen just five of their last seventeen (29.4%) stay under the number.

kehe St. Louis Blues have seen just eleven of their thirty-five home games (31.4%) stay under the NHL odds total this season. The Blues have been one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL this year averaging 3.1 goals per game.
