New York Islanders vs. Florida Panthers 7:35 PM ET

NHL Money Line: Islanders -125/Panthers +115 (Courtesy of 5Dimes)
The Florida Panthers enter today’s game having gone 5-8 against the money line on the season. They’ve really struggled to generate offense on a consistent basis. The Panthers average a mere 1.8 goals per game, and they’re converting on just 13.6% of their power play opportunities. On a positive note, the Panthers are coming off a 4-1 home win over the San Jose Sharks the last time out. The bad news, Florida has gone 0-8 at home the last 2-seasons following a home win by 2-goals or more.

The Islanders enter tonight with a stellar 10-5 money line record, and are one of the early surprise teams in the Eastern Conference. They’re coming off a 6-0 rout over the Colorado Avalanche at home on Tuesday. The combination of that previous result, and their record, creates a very profitable money line betting system. I will be leaning on this data as an integral part of making one of my NHL picks for today.

Any team (Islanders) playing in the 1st half of the season, coming off a home shutout win in their previous game, and they have a winning record, has gone 84-27 (75.7%) against the money line during the past 5-seasons.

New Jersey Devils vs. Washington Capitals 7:05 PM ET

NHL Money Line: Capitals -150/Devils +136 (Courtesy of Pinnacle)
This is a battle of two Metropolitan Division teams which have been inconsistent so far in the 2014-2015 regular season campaign. Both teams have been very good on the power play, but their penalty killing units have been on the opposite end of the spectrum. Today’s two scheduled starting goaltenders Cory Schneider of the Devils, and Braden Holtby of the Capitals, have both been less than impressive to this point.

The New Jersey Devils are 7-9 (.438) against the money line on our NHL odds to start the season. They were able to snap a 3-games losing streak in their previous game with a 3-1 home win over the Minnesota Wild. The Devils have gone a stellar 18-9 against the money line during the past 2-season after losing 3 of their last 4-games.

The Washington Capitals are 7-8 (.467) against the money line this season. They were able to bounce back from a recent 5-games losing streak by winning their last 3-games in a row heading into tonight.

Any team (Devils) with a money line win percentage of .400 to .490 on the season, versus an opponent with a win percentage of .400 to .490, and they’ve (Capitals) won 3 or more games in a row, has gone 51-24 (68.0%) against the money line since 1997.
