There are two NHL 2nd round Conference Games taking place tonight as the Anaheim Ducks face off against the Calgary Flames and the Washington Capitals face the New York Rangers, but clearly the big game of the night is the Caps and the Rangers at MSG as the Capitals are just 1 game away from knocking the Blueshirts out of the playoffs. Can they do so is the question? See who we like as our betting picks.

Washington Capitals vs. New York Rangers- Capitals Leads 3-1

Regular Season Is Meaningless?
This has happened before where the team with the best record in the NHL gets ousted earlier. We certainly didn't expect this as the Rangers made it to the Stanley Cup Finals last season and with the Los Angeles Kings not making the playoffs, the Rangers thought that they had a clear path back to the finals.

Even worse, to get eliminated in front of their New York fans, who are the most critical fans in sports, would be a crushing blow if this were to happen. NHL betting odds makers list the Rangers as a massive -161 betting favorite and I have to agree. I can't see them dominating all season long and bowing out to the Capitals in just 5 games. New York will have to take the one game at a time approach as they need to win 3 consecutive games to advance to the next round of the post-season.

Goal Shortage
This hasn't been a series dominated by Washington. Both defenses have been dominant. Washington has just managed to score that one extra elusive goal to win each game and goalie Braden Holtby has been sensational.

Holtby has been the star of the game in 3 out of the 4 games while Washington has outscored the Rangers 7-5 in the 4 games. That's the farthest thing from a blowout that you'll see for a team to be down 3 games to 1. Alex Ovechkin hasn't been a huge factor in this series. It appears that an unknown steps up each game and in game 4 it was 20 year old Andre Burakovsky. Burakovsky managed to pot 2 goals and in his last 2 games has 2 goals and 1 assist. In order for New York to remain in this series, they must score. They have been one of the lowest scoring teams in the playoffs despite their great defensively play.

I'm once again going to side with the Rangers at these extreme odds as I can't see them losing in front of their Madison Square Garden fans. Take the Rangers and lay the juice.

NHL Pick- New York Rangers -161 at 5Dimes

Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames - Anaheim Leads 2-1

19.5 Seconds Away From a 3-0 Series
I wanted to say that this is still a series, but game 5 is the deciding factor on whether this matchup is a legitimate series. For the time being, Calgary made a statement in game 3 with a 4-3 victory in overtime to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive. Destiny could be on the Flames side as Johnny Gaudreau scored with just 19.5 seconds in the 3rd period to tie the game up and Mikael Backlund scored on a delayed penalty call in overtime to provide Calgary with their first win of the series. If the Flames can show the same resilience that they showed in game 3, Anaheim could definitely have their hands full "putting out the Flames" as Calgary might start to believe that they're a team of destiny, so keep this in mind before placing your NHL picks.

Big Money Player
With all of the hooplah that went on in game 3, one must not forget about Corey Perry of the Ducks as this is a big-time player that can put away the Flames if he gets on a roll.

Thus far, Perry has flourished in the playoffs as he leads the Ducks with 6 goals and 8 assists. Perry has scored 3 goals and 4 assists in just 3 games in this series and in his last 5 games, Perry has managed 4 goals and 6 assists. Goalie Karri Ramo hasn't faced a ton of shots from the Ducks, but Perry has made them count and Ramo and the Flames defense will need to be at their best in facing a relentless Ducks offense.

NHL Pick- Calgary +128 at 5Dimes (Calgary carries a huge amount of momentum coming into game 4)
