It’s a busy Saturday in the NHL with 10 games in total on the ice. The action starts early with a Philadelphia Flyers-Boston Bruins showdown and we’ve got a separate preview up for that game. Aside from that, we’ve got three previews and picks below for other games on the card:

Montreal Canadiens vs. Arizona Coyotes

Odds: Canadiens -220
This is a matchup of two teams at polar opposite ends of the spectrum. The Coyotes ended their 10-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks in their latest outing, and they're short underdogs at +1.5 on the NHL betting odds. They’ve been trampled many times in that stretch, giving up at least three goals or more in nine of their last 10 outings. As for the Canadiens, they’ve lost three straight but they’ve had a really challenging west coast trip. Prior to that, they had won nine of 12. After giving Carey Price the night off on Thursday, I expect them to bounce back with a vengeance and pound the listless Coyotes. While I don’t want to lay all of the juice on the moneyline, I will lay the puck line in this spot.

NHL Pick: Canadiens -1.5  at The Greek

Winnipeg Jets vs. Nashville Predators

Odds: Predators -160
The Nashville Predators have hit a bit slump as they’ve dropped five straight games. The issue seems to be goaltending as they can’t keep pucks out of the net anymore. They had allowed just 2.34 goals per game through their first 61 contests this season but they’ve allowed a whopping 19 goals in their last five games.

However, I’m still going to take a shot with the Preds here (on the puck line) as the Jets are a lousy road team. The Jets have lost seven of their last eight road games. They’ve been horrible between the pipes of late as they’ve given up 3.35 goals per game since the All-Star break, which is the worst in the NHL. The Preds have won nine of the last 12 as the host in this series and we’ll aim for one more time on Saturday.

NHL Pick:  Predators -1.5 at Bodog

Goaltending Influenced This Capper's Pick on Flyers/Bruins

Colorado Avalanche vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Odds: Avalanche -110
In this matchup, we’ll be looking at an over as the goaltending on both sides has been less than stellar. For the Avalanche, Semyon Varlamov has been very shaky as he’s allowed three goals or more in four of his last five. The Avs have given up the eighth-most goals per game since the All-Star break (2.88). As for the Blue Jackets, they’ve been playing a whole host of overs recently as five of their last seven games have seen more than 5.5 goals. They’ve allowed 3.22 goals per game since the All-Star break, which is the fourth-most in the NHL.

The over is 7-1 when the Avs are on two-days’ rest this season and it’s also 15-9 when the Avs face a team with a losing record. Based on the goaltending struggles on each side, we’ll look for another high-scoring affair in this one, so take the over with your NHL pick.
