There are seven games on the ice tonight with plenty of playoff implications to go around. We’ve rounded up our three favorite NHL picks of the night with the predictions and write-ups below.
Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins
The Florida Panthers find themselves in a tight spot on Tuesday, playing their final game of a five-game road trip and facing a team that’s going to be looking for some revenge. The Panthers beat the Bruins just 10 days ago, persevering 2-1 in a shootout. However, the Panthers are just 2-2 since while the Bruins enter having won two straight.
The Bruins should win this game as they really need this to secure their playoff position but Florida is hot on their heels. A win by the Panthers could cut the gap between the teams to just two points.
So instead of betting a side, I’ll go with the under. Each of the last two meetings and eight of the last 10 matchups have seen five goals or less.
NHL Pick: Under 5 at BetOnline
New York Rangers vs. Winnipeg Jets
Odds: Rangers -110
The Winnipeg Jets appear to have cooled off after their five-game winning streak as they’ve since lost two of three. They allowed just five goals during those five wins but have since allowed 11 goals in their last three outings. Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec had been outstanding earlier this month but has seemingly come back down to Earth. However, Tuesday offers them an opportunity to get back on track. Pavelec has a lifetime 2.20 GAA against the Rangers, which is decent, and he’ll be facing a Blueshirts team that’s been struggling of late. The Rangers have dropped three of four and have played a lot of hockey in the last few days. Tuesday’s affair will be their third game in four nights as well as their fourth game in six nights.
I’ll take a shot with Winnipeg in my NHL picks as they really need this game. They’re fighting for their playoff lives and as a home dog, the price seems right.
NHL Pick: Jets +100 at Bookmaker
New Jersey Devils vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Odds: Blue Jackets -165
The Devils have decided to pack their season in a few games early as they’ve been absolutely lifeless over the last couple of weeks. They enter Tuesday’s matchup with Columbus on a five-game losing streak, having scored just five goals in the process. They have lost to some good teams in that stretch, such as the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, and they’ve lost to some bad teams too, like the slumping New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes.
Columbus is playing really well these days – possibly their best stretch of the season – as they’ve won six straight and nine of 10. A lot of that has to do with the resurgence of Sergei Bobrovsky, who has a respectable .927 save percentage this month. He should have an easy time of things with a listless Devils squad on Tuesday.
This game has a total of five on the NHL betting odds board but the Devils haven’t played in a game that’s seen more than five goals in nine straight.
