This article will be a little different today, though we will be looking at the betting odds to come up with three best bets, we only have three games to choose from for options.

That is fine, we will make it work and we will take what the sportsbooks give us and make the best of it for NHL picks. Time to dive into this trio of contests and see what we can come up with for winners.

Minnesota Answers the Call of the Wild
Winnipeg's six-game homestand is not going as planned at 1-1-1, losing to St. Louis and Tampa Bay, the latter in OT. Do not place any of the blame on Blake Wheeler for Jets (4-2-1), whose tied a franchise record by recording at least one point in Winning's first seven contests (four goals and five assists).  Overall, the Jets offense has been potent, ranked sixth in the league in scoring at 3.29 goals a game. Wagerweb.ag opened Winnipeg as -140 home favorite and a couple negatives popped up, the Jets have lost four of the past five home games and they are 0-4 with one days rest.

Minnesota at 5-1-1 is off to their best start in seven seasons and was particularly impressive in 3-0 shutout last night over Anaheim. For a second straight game Jared Spurgeon was a big part of the offense with two assists and the defense was superb as goalie Devan Dubnyk only had to turn away 15 shots.

With Dubnyk starting yesterday, Darcy Kuemper will likely make his second appearance this season and he is 2-0 with a 1.71 GAA in two career starts against Winnipeg, both last season. With the Wild 16-6 in last 22 road games and 4-1 playing third contests in four days, the underdog has value .

Rangers Rev Up for Calgary
Calgary (2-5) ended their four-game losing streak with a come from behind win over Detroit in OT Friday night. The Flames just kept grinding like they did last season when they had 10 victories after trailing after two periods. Nonetheless, the Flames two victories this season have both come in OT and in the five losses they have outscored 23-9. On average, Calgary is being outscored by 1.8 goals a game, hardly for hockey handicappers are look for when it comes to backing teams for sports picks.

The New York Rangers have been the busiest team in the league, as they will be the first team to reach 10 games played with this contest (5-2-2). New York's offense has only been ordinary 2.67 GPG (16th) and power play at 17th in the NHL at 17.4 percent. The key number for the Rangers thus far for the Rangers is three, as the first team to reach three goals scored in 8-0, which they have done each victory.

The NHL odds had New York as -165 home favorites and we will agree with the Blueshirts 30-12 if their opponent allowed two or fewer goals in last outing and Calgary has lost six of seven roadies.

Backing the Better Club In Edmonton
In this Pacific Division clash, Los Angeles and Edmonton have had similar starts. The Kings (4-3) began with three losses in a row, outscored 12-2, before finding their groove, which has led to four consecutive victories. The Oilers (3-5) appeared to be the same sad sack group of the past few years after 0-4 start, but turned heads by winning three times in five days, before losing 7-4 to Washington on Friday.

This is not an easy choice with L.A. at -140, playing only their second away game of the year and in spite of being outstanding on defense in this winning stretch (three goals allowed), they are 2-8 in road games after allowing two goals or less in three straight tilts.Edmonton is no prize either at a miserable 2-16 after a game where both teams scored four goals or more the last three seasons.

I will back the more talented squad who is 7-2 in recent skirmishes with Edmonton.
Free NHL Pick:  Los Angeles Kings (-140) at Bookmaker
