There are just three games on the ice on Wednesday, which means it’s slim pickings for our NHL picks. Even so, here’s a look at our three predictions on the game for tonight.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Odds:
Maple Leafs -255
To start off, there is no way anyone can conceivable lay -255 with the Toronto Maple Leafs these days. This is a team that’s been atrocious over the last couple of months. They’ve have lost five of six and are a league-worst 4-21 over their last 25 games.

The Sabres are also pathetic as they’ve been similarly as bad this season. They enter Wednesday on a four-game losing streak and they’ve also dropped 10 of 13. They’ve given up a whopping 40.4 shots over their last eight games. Toronto isn’t much better, giving up 33.1 on the season.

Both sides have bad goaltending, so I’ll take the over. That’s the only logical side I see in this contest.

New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals
The Capitals are on a bit of a roll again as they’ve won three of four. Goaltending has been the key – once again – as they’ve allowed just five goals in their last four contests. Goaltender Braden Holtby has been rock solid this month, posting a .945 save percentage so far.

There are a lot of injuries to keep in mind for both sides here and it’s going to lead to us taking an under with our NHL picks. It looks like Mike Green (upper-body), Nicklas Backstrom (illness) and Brooks Orpik (lower-body) will be out. Two of those three are key offensive weapons as Green and Backstrom are two of the top four scorers on the team.

The Rangers are going to find themselves in a back-to-back situation after facing off with the New York Islanders on Tuesday, so fatigue could factor. And their offense – one of the league’s best – has cooled off of late. The Rangers have scored just four goals in their last three games. I’m going to expect a conservative, low-scoring affair in this one.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames
Odds:
Ducks -118
The Anaheim Ducks have followed up their four-game winning streak with a two-game losing streak. They’ll try to cut that off when they visit the Calgary Flames as a NHL odds favorite for Wednesday's matchup. The Flames have been playing well as they’ve gone 3-0-1 in their last four. That makes this game a bit challenging to cap.

The Flames are 18-7 against the division this season and the Ducks are just 7-8 in their last 15 against teams with a winning record. However, Anaheim has played well in this series – for the most part – winning eight of the last 11 matchups.

I’m going to side with the Ducks in this spot as they’ve won three straight in this series. It’s a coin flip but I view them as a better team overall.
