Our NHL consultant shares his two top totals for Saturday. His betting preview article covers the games between Detroit/Carolina and Nashville/Dallas.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes 7:05 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the posted total in this game is 5.0.

The Carolina Hurricanes have seen only one of their previous eight games at home go over the total. As a matter of fact, Carolina has seen only eight of forty-one games (19.5%) at home this season go over the total.

The Detroit Red Wings have gone over the total in just one of their last six games overall. Detroit is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss at Montreal in their previous game. The Red Wings have gone under the total in ten of twelve away games during the past two seasons following a one goal defeat on the road.

NHL Pick: Play on Detroit and Carolina to go under the total of 5.0 at Bookmaker.

Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars 8:05 PM ET
The NHL betting odds at 5Dimes indicates that the posted total on this game is 5.5.

The Nashville Predators have limped down the final stretch of the regular season, and they enter today losers of five in a row. Their shoddy defensive play and shaky goaltending has been a major contributor to this current losing streak. They’ve allowed three goals or more in each of their previous six games. The Predators haven’t gone under the total in any of their last eight games. Pekka Rinne is once again slated to be in goal tonight for Nashville, and he’s not been able to stop the proverbail beach ball in recent outings. Rinne has compiled a horrible .857 save percentage over his last four starts.

The Dallas Stars have continued to play a very entertaining brand of hockey despite being eliminated from playoff contention. Dallas has scored four goals or more in eight of their previous ten games. The Stars have gone over the total in five of the last six, and seven of their previous nine games.

This game has all the ear marks of an entertaining high scoring affair, and one of my NHL picks on Saturday will be reflective of just that.

NHL Pick: Play on Nashville and Dallas to go over the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes.
