Tonight is an interesting night in the world of hockey as top goaltenders Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist must have the games of their lives to keep their respective series competitive. Let's take a closer look at both game in Wednesday's NHL Playoff Picks of the Day.

New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals - Capital Lead 2-1

This is the Big One
The pressure is solely on New York. If they win tonight, the series will be tied 2-2, going back to MSG. However, if they lose, the Capitals are in a dominant position with a 3-1 lead and 3 chances to knock the Rangers out of the playoffs.

Sometimes the teams with the best regular season record peak too early and lose in the playoffs. I don't think that has happened here. The Caps have been slightly better than the Blueshirts and most of these games are going to come down to a one goal margain. Meaning, there is no room for error.

Braden Holtby was the star in game 3 of the series as he managed to stop all 30 Rangers shots. Henrik Lundqvist was actually the third star of the game, allowing just 1 goal and that was the difference in a 1-0 Washington victory.

Alex Ovechkin had no bearing on the outcome in game 3. This series or at least game 4 could apparently come down to the goalies. Jay Beagle of all people had the winning and only goal of the game in game 3. Beagle had scored 20 points during the regular season. This tells us that each respective goalie has to be perfect.

This game is a virtual toss up with the Caps having home ice advantage. As I've mentioned before, Alex Ovechkin had scored 53 goals on the season and objective number 1 for Henrik Lundqvist will be to stop the Russian from being a factor in this game. The pressure is on Lundvist, but I still think that he's the better goalie and the Rangers are the better team. I thought that the Rangers would be a moderate underdog, but odds makers know who to back as the NHL betting odds are virtually even.

Both the Rangers & Lightning are currently leading the Eastern Conference

Montreal Canadians vs. Tampa Bay Lightning - Lightning Lead 2-0

Lightning Are in the Driver's Seat
Coming off of a 6-2 victory and leading this series with a 2-0 lead and playing at home, the Lightning have a chance to put away this series. Teams have come back from 3-0 deficits but that's a rare occurrence. Montreal gave it their all in game 1 as they lost in double overtime, but they really spit the bit in game 2 and regaining their confidence will be the ultimate task in enemy territory for game 3.

Carey Price, who is widely known as the best goalie in the NHL, had his worst effort of the season at the worst time as he allowed 6 goals in just 24 shots. Although this is a disaster for the Habs, they can come into this game still knowing that they have the best goalie in the NHL and a win here can change the complexion of this series.

In order for Montreal to bounce back, they must stop the electric offense of Tampa Bay and Steven Stamkos in particular. Stamkos has been a beast all season long with 43 goals and 29 assists. He had been rather quiet in the playoffs, but finally scored his first goal of the post-season to go along with 2 assists. He's the leader of the Lightning in my opinion and the Canadians defense can't allow him to pick up momentum.

I'm going to put my faith in Price in this spot as I think that Montreal will make this a competitive series. Price has had a storybook season and one lousy game doesn't take away from what he's done all season long; so back them with your NHL picks.
