The Detroit Red Wings and the Vancouver Canucks will meet in Vancouver on Saturday night and the Canucks are a -130 favorite on the NHL betting odds lines.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
They dominate this series. They have won three straight meetings between the teams and six of the last eight. Their only losses have come in overtime, so Vancouver doesn’t even have a regulation win the last eight times the sides have gotten together. One of the main reasons for that is because goaltender Jimmy Howard plays pretty well against the Canucks. In those eight games, he’s posted a sparking 2.02 goals-against average.

On the flip side, Miller has not played well against Detroit as he hasn’t won in any of his last seven meetings with them. He’s posted a 0-5-2 record in that time while compiling a gaudy 3.27 GAA. He hasn’t beat Detroit since 2009.

It’s pretty clear who the goaltending matchup favors in this one, which should give NHL betting cappers a tip on which way to bet this game.

The Vancouver Canucks Can Win Because…
The Red Wings are +110 on NHL odds and they can be considered to be overrated. To this point in the season, no team has played more home games than the Detroit Red Wings (23). They’ve hardly played any road games of late as 11 of their last 15 games have come at home. That’s why when you look at the standings and see them sitting with 49 points, it’s pretty clear that the number is inflated. To contrast, they’ve only played 15 road games. On the road, they are just 7-5-3, so they aren’t as good as the numbers show.

The biggest difference for the Red Wings on the road is that they give up way more goals. They have allowed just 2.04 goals per game at Joe Louis Arena this season but on the road, that number climbs to 2.73.

Vancouver is coming off a loss but they’ve gone 3-1-1 in their last five and Miller has played well in that span. He has given up an average of 1.8 goals per game in that span and is really keeping the Canucks in it. As long as he plays well and the Red Wings play like they have on the road this season, the Canucks are worth a look.

The Red Wings seem to have more momentum of the two teams as they’ve won three of their last four. Vancouver has been fading a little bit as they’ve dropped seven of 10 and haven’t looked particularly sharp. When you factor in the edge the Red Wings have had in this series – especially in net – it makes sense to add the Red Wings as our NHL picks.
