Ovechkin Leads Caps Over Toronto in Shootout
Alex Ovechkin scored a goal in the 2nd period and then he got the game winning goal in the shootout to top a Toronto team that seems to be playing better of late. Still, Ovechkin wouldn’t have had that chance to win the game in the shootout had Nicklas Backstrom not tied the game with one second left to send it to OT. For Backstrom it was his 5th goal of the year, while Ovechkin notched his 8th goal of the year in the win. Braden Holtby had another solid game in the crease, stopping 25 shots to pick up his 8th win of the year against just three losses. His GAA on the year is a solid 2.10. Holtby is a solid 4-1 with a 2.37 GAA in his career vs the Red Wings. Washington has been a very solid offensive team this year, ranking 4th in scoring (3.2 gpg), while on defense they rank 9th in goals allowed (2.4 gpg).

Red Wings Stymied By Lehtonen In Loss To Dallas
The Detroit Red Wings came into their home game with Dallas on a three game win streak, but then they went up against the hot Kari Lehtonen and the win streak went bye-bye. The Detroit offense had not really been on fire, but they did score nine total goals in their win streak. Detroit has now scored exactly one goal in five of their last six losses and just two goal in that other loss. The offense now ranks 23rd in the league in scoring (2.4 gpg) and getting the lone goal in the game was Gustav Nyquist, which was his 6th goal of the year. On defense they check in at 15th in goals allowed (2.6 gpg) and 12th on the penalty kill (82.4%). Taking the loss vs Dallas was Jimmy Howard, who is now 3-4 with a 2.07 GAA on the the year. Howard is 3-3 with a 3.37 GAA in his career vs Washington.

Washington is 7-1 in their last eight after allowing two goals or less in their previous game & 19-7 in their last 26 vs. Atlantic Division

Detroit is 2-6 the last eight in the series and 1-4 in their last five home games

NHL Betting Preview
The Caps have been the more consistent team this year, especially on offense. Detroit is having scoring issues right now and facing the hot Holtby will not help matters at all. Washington has the better offense, and goalie in this one and they are 6-2 the last eight in the series. Look for the Caps to stay hot in this one.
