I have absolutely no interested in laying -150 with the New York Islanders at home – especially when you consider they’ve lost three straight, five of seven and 10 of 14.

NHL Betting: Sunday Picks

An up-and-down season is finding us more down than up these days but hopefully Sunday will be a little kinder to us. Let’s have a look at the nine games on tap and see if the NHL odds can pay us out.

Record: 64-76 (-953)

Ottawa Senators at New York Islanders

The Ottawa Senators are enduring some trials and tribulations of their own but the value here just makes it worth a shot.

No team has less home wins in the NHL than the Islanders and the Sens have won three of their last four trips to Nassau.

Edmonton Oilers at Minnesota Wild

I’m willing to lay the juice in this spot with Minnesota as they’ve played well recently. They have won four of six with the two losses coming on the road. At home, they are much better as they’ve won seven of their 10 contests.

Minnesota dominates this series as they’ve won 11 of the last 13 meetings. Niklas Backstrom is on fire right now, going 5-1-1 with a 1.66 GAA over his last seven so look for him to lead the way.

Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames

It’s hard to believe a situation where the Calgary Flames will be facing a total of five while putting journeyman Joey MacDonald between the pipes. The veteran goaltender has a goals-against average of 3.05 and a save percentage of .899. That alone should make this total 5.5.

One reason for it is that the Flames haven’t been scoring much as they’ve notched just 14 goals in their last six games. However, when you look at their home splits, they’ve actually scored 18 goals in their last five at home. Take the over for your NHL picks.
