Our NHL handicapper breaks down Thursday’s game between San Jose & Philadelphia. Join us in reading this betting preview article that culminates with his NHL pick.

Shark Infested Ice in Philly
Philadelphia will host San Jose on Thursday at the First Union Center, and the opening faceoff is slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to current NHL odds at 5Dimes, San Jose is a -123 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5 San Jose defeated Philadelphia in both of their meetings a season ago by scores of 3-2 and 2-1. Thursday will be the first of two times they square off during this 2015-2016 NHL campaign.

Continuing on successful Road Swing
Tonight will be the fourth of a six game in ten day road trip for San Jose. They’ve won each of the first three, and that includes a 5-4 win at Boston on Tuesday. The win improved their winning percentage to .555 this season, and San Jose has gone a stellar 7-3 on the road. Martin Jones is once again expected to be in goal for San Jose on Thursday. Jones has started in 15 of 18 games for San Jose thus far. He’s been superb on the road, going 7-1 in eight starts, and compiling a very good .929 save percentage.

Grounded Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers have gone a dismal 2-9 in their previous eleven games, and now possess a terrible .333 win percentage this season. There’s been no advantage when they’ve played at home, evidenced by them losing six of nine at the First Union Center. Steve Mason is expected to make his fourth consecutive start in goal for Philadelphia on Thursday. Mason is 3-8 in eleven starts this season with a mediocre at best .902 save percentage. Tonight will be the Flyers second game in the last five days, and they’ve gone 0-5 at home this season when playing in that exact scenario.

NHL Totals Super Betting Angle
Any money line favorite (San Jose) playing in the first half of the season, and is coming off a one goal win on the road, versus an opponent (Philadelphia) with a less than .500 winning percentage, resulted in the favorite going 93-35 (72.7%) during the past five seasons. I’m siding with money line road favorite for one of my NHL picks on Thursday.
