The Rexall Place, in Edmonton, Alberta will explode with action when the Edmonton Oilers play host to the Dallas Stars. Have the sportsbooks left any value on the table for those of us looking to place our NHL pick on this matchup?

In the early 2000’s, the Dallas-Edmonton rivalry was quite entertaining. Nowadays, these are just two cellar-dwelling teams in the Western Conference who are trying to rebuild. On Wednesday, they’ll meet up in Edmonton as they both try to work their way up the standings.

Check out SBRs Wednesday's Hockey Picks of the Day

The Dallas Stars can win because…

They’ve played better on the road of late. People who make their NHL picks saw them start the year with just one win in their first five road games but since then, they’ve own four of five on the road and each of their last three.

The bottom line for the Stars is that they are a decent team when Kari Lehtonen is in net (7-3-2) and are below average when he’s not anchoring the team (1-4-0). With him expected to start on Wednesday, the Stars should have a huge edge between the pipes.

The Edmonton Oilers can win because…

They’ve shown some signs of life recently. Although the Oilers have lost three straight, those all came on a four-game road trip. The final loss of the trip, a 5-4 loss in Chicago was valiant and they did earn a win in Florida to start the journey.

The good news is they are back at home. Hopefully that can get them back in their comfort zone and help deliver a win.

Outlook & Pick

Things are getting ugly for the Oilers. Not only do they enter Wednesday’s game on a three-game losing streak (and having lost eight of nine), they’ve also lost four straight at home while being outscored 17-2. On top of that, it looks like there’s some locker-room turmoil with Nail Yakupov being unhappy with his minutes and head coach Dallas Eakins squarely on the hot seat.

There’s no good reason to take a flier with the Oilers on the NHL odds. Add the Stars to your sports picks.
