The Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers formed one of the better NHL rivalries in the early 2000’s. Nowadays, both teams are rebuilding and trying to prove they are playoff contenders. On Tuesday, they’ll clash.

The Dallas Stars can win because…

The Oilers are struggling right now. Edmonton has lost three straight and is having a tough time scoring goals. They haven’t scored more than two goals in four straight games and it’s hard to win in the NHL when you’re not scoring.

The Stars own this series as they’ve won nine of the last 10 meetings and four of their last five visits to Edmonton. Goaltender Kari Lehtonen won all three starts against the Oilers last season and is 7-2-0 with a 2.12 GAA against them.

The Edmonton Oilers can win because…

The Stars are not a very good team. On the season, the Stars have yet to win consecutive games and are coming off a win over Colorado. The Stars are one of the league’s lowest scoring teams at just two goals per game. They have just two wins in six road games and probably shouldn’t be getting as much respect on the NHL odds as they are

Edmonton has lost three straight games but two of those games were against Vancouver and San Jose. Those losses are nothing to be ashamed of. Dallas is on their level and they’re even a team that has less points than the Oilers, so Edmonton should be able to take care of business at home.

Outlook & Pick

The Oilers have struggled in this series but they’ve been bad over the last few years. This team is different. The Stars have scored just four goals in their last three road games and Edmonton should be able to take advantage of them since they are playing at home. Lets stay away from the total with our NHL picks and lay the small juice with the Oilers.
