The Dallas Stars are coming off a loss but have still won five of seven. They need to keep it going if they hope to make the playoffs. They find themselves as a sizable dog on the NHL odds on Saturday in Tampa Bay.

The Dallas Stars Can Win Because…
They are playing pretty well right now. As mentioned, they have won five of seven with and have been lighting the lamp with regularity. They’ve now scored 24 goals in their last seven, which is a healthy 3.43 goals per game.

Tampa Bay has had some issues recently, dropping four of their last seven games. Included in that are some costly defeats such as the ones at home to Calgary and Ottawa both as favorites of -200 or more. The Stars need the points here to stay in the playoff hunt. That motivation will fuel them, so take them with your NHL picks.

The Tampa Bay Lightning Can Win Because…
They play well against the Stars. They’ve won three straight over Dallas and have gone 5-0-2 in the last seven meetings. If goaltender Kari Lehtonen is in net for Dallas, that could be a further detriment as he’s got a 3.77 GAA in his last three versus Tampa Bay. Overall, he’s 3-7-2 with a 2.96 GAA in his last 12 road games.

The Lightning have a huge edge in net with Ben Bishop, who is 20-4-5 at home with a 2.11 GAA. They’ll take care of business.

Outlook & Pick
Picking a side is tough in this one as the Stars are coming off a road loss in Carolina while the Lightning are coming off a home loss to Calgary. The Lightning have clinched their playoff spot while the Stars are still fighting for their playoff lives.

I’m going to take the over as Lehtonen is expected to be in net. Also, the over is 15-9 when the Lightning are at home with a total of 5.5 and 10-5 in the Stars’ last 15 against winning teams.

Pick: Over 5.5 at BetMarathon
