NHL Betting: Stars vs. Ducks Picks
Gone are: Michael Ryder, Brenden Morrow, Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy. That list could be extended by game-time. Now the Stars have a tall order of going to Anaheim and beating a team that silenced them 4-0 on Monday.
Record: 108-118 (-304)
The Dallas Stars can win because…
The Ducks have been wonky of late. There’s a reason why the Ducks are -170 favorites and not in the range of -200 on the NHL odds boards. That’s because they’ve lost five of seven and have been unreliable lately. They’ve lost three straight at home, which means the Stars should have an opening.
Dallas actually has a better road record (8-8) than home record (8-11). So, the home-ice advantage might not be such an edge. The Ducks might overlook the Stars after their deadline fire sale but as Buffalo showed Pittsburgh on Tuesday, trading away key parts is not an indication that they are waving the white flag.
The Anaheim Ducks can win because…
The Stars have traded away key members off their team. First, it was Brenden Morrow and Michael Ryder. Then on Tuesday, it was Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy – two of the team’s leading scorers. That accounts for 58% of the scoring of the forwards this season. Dallas wasn’t a deep team to begin and now they are razor thin.
The Ducks just shutout Dallas on Monday easily with a 4-0 result. It was actually Dallas’ third loss in four games and they only have four wins in their last 12. The Ducks should cruise on Wednesday.

Outlook & Pick
Dallas has made some trades and might even make more. Meanwhile, the Ducks might bolster an already strong lineup before the deadline. Regardless, the Ducks should win this game rather easily as the Stars are selling off their team for parts.
Instead of laying the juice, though, I’m more inclined to take the under with my NHL picks. I see the Stars as struggling to adjust now that they’ve traded away so much offense and the Ducks should be able to keep them under wraps as they did on Monday.
