The Stars are coming off a quality 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks, who were previously undefeated. As for the Ducks, they have been red-hot since being embarrassed 6-1 by the Colorado Avalanche on opening night. The Ducks have won six straight and shot their way to the top of the Western Conference standings. The Stars are second-last in the West but coming off their big win, they’ll look to cool off another hot team.
The Dallas Stars can win because…
Anaheim’s been scraping by in recent wins. Sure, they’re on a six-game winning streak but their last win was a 3-2 shootout triumph over the Phoenix Coyotes and the game before that was a 3-2 nail-biter against the Calgary Flames.
The Ducks power-play has been non-existent this season, which is great news for the Stars. The Ducks are a league-worst 1-for-27 with the man-advantage. Dallas has proven to be one of the better defensive teams in the league as they’ve allowed just 17 goals so far, which is the sixth-fewest in the NHL. They’ll make the Ducks work for all of their opportunities and if they keep this a low-scoring affair, they’ll have an excellent shot to win.

The Anaheim Ducks can win because…
The Stars haven’t played well on the road. Experts who make their sports picks should note that Stars have lost two of three on the road but have won two of three at home. On the flip side, Anaheim has proven to be a stellar home team as they have won all of their games on the Duck Pond so far (3-0-0).
The other main difference in this contest will be goaltending. The Stars are still reeling a bit without a healthy Kari Lehtonen. Without their starting goalie, the Stars have given up 11 goals in their last three contests. There’s a chance that he’s back on Sunday but he’s questionable as of right now. Meanwhile, the Ducks goaltenders have been great. They’ve allowed just five goals in their last four games and have really clamped down on their opponents.
The Ducks are firing on all cylinders right now as they’ve won six straight while scoring at least three goals in each of those wins. That’ll be too much for the Stars to handle.
Outlook & Pick
There are no NHL odds up for this game just yet because of the status of Lehtonen. If he plays, you’d have to consider the under as both of these teams have been fairly stingy allowing goals. That’s probably the best play.
If it is Ellis in net, the Ducks will be a big favorite and that will leave me off of the sides. The Ducks will be charging too much and I have no interest betting the Stars with their backup goalie.
Take the under for your NHL picks if Lehtonen is back but otherwise, stay away.
