The Dallas Stars have been eliminated from playoff contention but it’s not likely to hurt their motivation on Wednesday. They’ve been playing well since the start of March and will face a tough test in Anaheim where they are posted as the NHL betting underdog.
The Dallas Stars Can Win Because…
They’ve been strong since the start of March. They have won 12 of their last 17 games and their offense has been absolutely smoking. They scored five goals in their latest game – a 5-1 win in San Jose – and they’ve tallied at least three goals in five straight games. In that span, they’ve averaged 4.2 goals per contest. They’ve also scored four or more in seven of their last 10. And while their offense is hotter than normal right now, this type of production isn’t anything all that new for Dallas. Their 3.11 non-shootout goals per game leads the Western Conference.
The Stars are fairly good on the road as they’ll be aiming for their fourth straight road win in this one. They are just 16-24 on the road but are 23-17 on the road. They’ve also won seven of their last eight away games. The Ducks home-ice advantage isn’t as strong as it looks here; take a shot with the Stars.
The Anaheim Ducks Can Win Because…
They’re one of the best teams in the NHL right now and they’re playing very well these days. The Ducks have won four of five and eight of their last 11 and 12 of the last 18. If they can win the final two games of the regular season, which is quite manageable considering they are playing Dallas at home and Arizona on the road, they will clinch the Western Conference’s best record.
The Ducks goaltending has been strong of late even though they are coming off a loss where they gave up four goals. In the last 11 games, they’ve allowed two goals or less in each of their eight wins. More importantly, they have had no problem stifling the Stars in their two meetings this season. The Ducks have won both meetings this season and they’ve allowed just two goals to Dallas in those contests. Both Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn have yet to register a single point in the matchups.
The Ducks seem to have the Stars number, so look for the third matchup of the season to play out like the first two.
The Ducks have won both meetings with the Stars this season but this could be a good spot for a value play with Dallas. They’ve been playing very well and the NHL betting odds here seems quite high. Remember, Dallas actually plays pretty well in away games.
That being the case, I’ll take a flier with the Stars for my NHL picks in what should be a very close matchup. The Stars have been stymied in the two previous meetings but with Seguin and Benn being so hot right now (Benn has 16 points in his last 10), they are worth a shot here.
