The Stars & Canucks hook up tonight in Vancouver, and our betting expert has the best side to back with your NHL Picks as Dallas is the clear Odds favorite with a 5.5 total.

Stars’ Scoring Success Good For NHL
As league-wide scoring continues to drop and the NHL mulls over rule changes to boost scoring, the Dallas Stars continue to find the back of the net. The Stars, currently leading the league in scoring, are unafraid to play an aggressive style and have become must-see TV every time they take the ice. Jamie Benn leads the NHL in scoring with 18 goals. He and linemate Tyler Seguin are 2nd and 3rd respectively in the NHL in points. The Stars’ scoring success is good for hockey and if they team can muster any sort of postseason success, the rest of the league will be sure to follow suit.

Canucks Back Home
After an ugly loss in Anaheim, the Vancouver Canucks spoiled terrific goaltending from backup Jacob Markstrom to fall to the L.A. Kings in overtime. The Canucks collapsed in the third period to cough up a 1-0 lead, before taking their seventh overtime loss of the season. Things have gotten so bad in the extra session that Canucks’ captain Henrik Sedin thinks it might be time for Vancouver to be playing for a shootout in those situations. The Canucks might have been out of gas after a long road trip, but will get a chance to rejuvenate themselves with a four-game homestand. Vancouver is fresh off of a month of November in which they posted an ugly 4-7-3 record.

Vancouver Canucks Trends
2-8 in their last 10 overall.
1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
0-6 in their last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Dallas Stars Trends
9-0 in their last 9 Thursday games.
12-2 in their last 14 vs. Western Conference.
18-5 in their last 23 vs. Pacific.

The Stars have dropped two of their last four games, which has helped bring the NHL Odds down here. Vancouver has lost eight of ten entering Thursday’s matchup with Dallas, including 3-2 bout at the American Airlines Center last week. Both Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin had their point streaks snapped against them Flames. As for this NHL Pick, look for those guys to get the Stars back on the board early and often on Thursday night.
