Stanley Cup Series Prices: Bruins vs. Blackhawks
For the first time since 1979, this year's Stanley Cup Finals features two "Original Six" teams, as the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks prepare for what is expected to be an epic NHL best of seven series.
Let's take an in-depth look at both teams as well as their odds to win the Stanley Cup and determine if its Boston or Chicago that brings the most value on the NHL odds.
Boston Bruins: +120
Sportsbooks have listed Boston as the underdogs in this series, but bettors have quickly jumped on the +120 odds, as nearly 60% of the money wagered thus far has been on the Bruins to hoist the Stanley Cup.
In round one it took the Bruins seven games to oust the Toronto Maple Leafs before moving on to round 2, which renewed a Boston/New York rivalry. However, the Bruins took care of business and beat the Rangers in five games, allowing them to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
What Happened Next Was a Huge Shocker!
Boston was matched up against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 3rd round of the playoffs and made quick work of the top-seeded squad by sweeping them right out of the postseason to earn a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in three years.
The Bruins have won five straight playoff games overall and five of seven on the road. Additionally, the Bruins are 4-1 in their last five games played in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Though the teams did not meet up during the regular
season, due to the lockout, Boston has won six of the last eight against Chicago.
Chicago Blackhawks: -140
Chicago, who has been the best team in hockey all season, has been pegged as the favorite on the NHL odds boards to win the Stanley Cup.
Having home ice in the Stanley Cup Finals certainly factored into the -140 series price by the Oddsmakers, as the Blackhawks are a stellar 40-15 in the last 55 games played at the United Center.
The Blackhawks opened its postseason against the Minnesota Wild and were able to oust them in five games, but were left for dead in round 2 when they faced the Detroit Red Wings. Down 3-1 against the team from the Motor City, the Blackhawks clawed there way back and pushed the series to seven games, coming away with a dramatic overtime victory to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Chicago's opponent in the Western Conference Finals was the reigning Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, but the Blackhawks proved how resilient they are by taking the series in just five games, which earned them a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time the 2010 NHL campaign.
The Blackhawks have won seven of eight against Eastern Conference opponents and four in a row versus the Northeast Division.
These teams matchup well against each-other and both are big, strong and fast, with neither really having a great advantage over the other.
For this reason I am siding with the Bruins for my NHL picks as underdogs to beat the Blackhawks and become NHL Stanley Cup Champions.
