There's only one game tonight on the NHL odds board, as San Jose will travel to New York. Don’t make a NHL pick today without first reading this revealing betting preview article.

Sharks invading Downtown Manhattan
The Rangers and Sharks will square off in the only scheduled NHL game on Monday. The opening faceoff at Madison Square Garden is slated for 7:05 PM ET. The NHL odds at 5Dimes shows the Rangers as a -126 money line favorite. The Rangers defeated San Jose in both meetings a season ago, and outscored them by a combined 7-1 margin.

Red-Hot Start for Sharks
San Jose suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday in a 6-3 road defeat against the New York Islanders. However, it must be noted, backup goaltender Alex Stalock was in goal for that loss. Martin Jones started the first four for San Jose and was 4-0 with an off the charts .982 save percentage. This will be San Jose’s fifth road game in their first six contests, and they’ve gone a solid 3-1 in those away tilts.

Up and Down Rangers
The Rangers are coming off a 2-1 home loss against the lowly New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon. It was their third loss in a row since getting off to a fast 3-0 start. During this three game losing streak, they’ve managed to score just a combined 2 goals. “The Blue Shirts” have dropped their last two home games, and were outscored 7-2 during those contests.

Special Teams Advantage to San Jose
The Rangers power play has been awful in their first six games. During that stretch, they’ve gone a dismal 1-for-16 (6.2%) with the man advantage. That’s not good news considering they’ll be facing an excellent penalty killing team tonight. San Jose has killed off 18-of-20 (90%) power play chances by opponents so far this season.

Henrik Lundquist has started all six games for the Rangers, and to the surprise of nobody he’s been razor sharp, evidenced by his excellent .931 save percentage. However, “Sir Henrik” was between the pipes in yesterday afternoon’s loss to New Jersey. The Rangers coaching staff finds themselves in a conundrum of starting Lundquist on consecutive days, or opting for backup Antti Raanta has yet to make an appearance thus far. They’ll also be facing the hottest goaltender (Martin Jones) in the NHL this evening, and will do so mired in a recent scoring slump. Martin Jones will also have the luxury of two days rest between starts.

Final Take
This NHL pick is all about betting value. The Sharks are playing with a ton of confidence right now, and especially so when Martin Jones is in goal. The Rangers will eventually wake up and get back on track. I’m betting that won’t begin tonight.
