The Ottawa Senators are doing the Alberta two-step. After playing in Edmonton on Tuesday night, they have a quick turnaround before facing Calgary on Wednesday night. It could be a very interesting day for the Senators, who might be trading away veterans at the trade deadline.

The Ottawa Senators Can Win Because…

The Flames are absolutely terrible. Calgary is the third-worst team in the NHL and comes into the game having lost three of four. They’ve basically given up on scoring goals as the Flames have managed just five goals in their last four games.

Although the Sens are in a back-to-back situation, the Flames will be playing their third game in four nights, so it’s not as if they’ll be in peak form. The Sens are the better team, so stick with them.

The Calgary Flames Can Win Because…

The Sens don’t like flying out west. On the season, if you’ve been taking the Senators with your NHL picks when they’ve played non-conference games, you’ve lost 13 times and only won seven.

The Flames are clearly one of the worst teams in the NHL but it might surprise you to know that they’ve won five of their last eight against teams with a winning record. If you’ve been taking them with your sports picks in that time, you’re up 3.2 units. Ottawa is in a tight spot with a back-to-back situation and will be physically tired, and with the trade deadline happening earlier in the day and the Sens potentially being sellers, they could be mentally worn down too. The Flames are worth a look here.

Outlook & Pick

After watching Ottawa struggle with Edmonton last night, there’s little reason to believe they’ll play much better in Calgary. Although the Flames are always a risky proposition, this might be one spot where they are worth a gamble.
