The Montreal Canadiens have been one of the best teams in the NHL to this point of the season while the Ottawa Senators are struggling. Ottawa started off 5-1-1 and was 12-6-2 on February 25th.

NHL Betting: Senators vs. Canadiens Picks

Since then, they’ve been in decline and could start fading from the playoff picture unless they pick up the pace. Let's look at the match-up between these two teams and the NHL odds that have been set for us.

Record: 80-90 (-455)

The Ottawa Senators can win because…

They’ve already beat Montreal twice this season. There’s no question that the Sens are struggling but a matchup against a rival that they’ve had success against could wake them up.

Ottawa has labored with just one win in their last seven but they’ve been competitive every game. Each of their losses in that span have come by just one goal and they haven’t lost by more than one in 11 games. They’ll be in this one too.

The Montreal Canadiens can win because…

They’re the better team right now. Ottawa simply has no solutions with Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson and others out of the lineup. The Sens have had a really tough time generating offense as they’ve tallied just 61 goals this season, which is the fewest in the Eastern Conference.

The Habs come into this contest winners of three straight and four of five. They are tough to beat at home as they are 8-3-2 at the Bell Centre. While the Sens are also one of the league’s better home teams with a record of 9-1-2 in front of their own audience, they are just 4-7-2 when playing on the road.

Let's check out the NHL Picks of the day for Wednesday~

Outlook & Pick

It’s tough to make any type of a convincing argument to take Ottawa. Right now, they’re shorthanded and they are struggling. The potential payout on the NHL odds is nice at about +155 but I just don’t believe they can get the job done.

Instead, I’ll take the under. The two times Carey Price has been in net against Ottawa this season, the final score was 2-1. I see a similarly low-scoring contest on Wednesday.
