Senators Betting Overview

Ottawa is holding down the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference with 48 points with seven games left on its regular season schedule. It comes into this matchup well-rested after posting back-to-back road victories over Philadelphia and New Jersey last Thursday and Friday night. This followed a five-game skid in which the normally stout defense gave-up an average of 3.2 goals a game as opposed to its goals-against-average of just 2.1 on the year.

Craig Anderson has been penciled-in as the Senators’ starter in goal for Monday night. In 18 previous games, he has compiled some very impressive numbers with a 1.52 GAA and a save percentage of .949. He stopped all 33 shots he faced in the team’s 2-0 victory over the Devils. Ottawa has been extremely tough to score on against the power play with a kill rate of 88.4 percent.

Bruins Betting Overview

The Bruins are averaging 2.7 goals a game, but a good chunk of that production was lost when both Brad Marchand (16 goals and 17 assists) and Patrice Bergeron (10 goals and 21 assists) went down with concussions. Marchand remains out indefinitely, but Bergeron has been upgraded to questionable for this contest. In the last two games with both these players out of the lineup, Boston dropped back-to-back decisions to the New York Islanders and Carolina by a combined score of 6-3.

Despite the two setbacks, the Bruins remain just one point behind Montreal for the lead in the Northeast Division and the No.2 seed in the conference with 56 overall points in 41 games. Much like the Senators, defense has been the strong suit for Boston this season. It is ranked third in the NHL in goals allowed with a 2.2 GAA. The main man in goal remains Tuukka Rask with a GAA of 1.99 and a .929 save percentage in 30 previous outings. While he has not been confirmed as the starter for Monday night, you can expect to see him between the pipes for this division rivalry.

Senators vs. Bruins- NHL Betting Odds and Trends

The NHL odds makers at BetOnline have opened Ottawa as a 153 road underdog with the Bruins listed as 168 favorites at home. The total line for this game has been set at 5.

The Senators are 6-14 in their last 20 road games but 5-2 in their last seven games following a win. The total has stayed under in their last four games on the road.

The Bruins are 15-6 in their last 21 games on one day’s rest and 8-2 in their last 10 games at home. The total has stayed under in six of their last nine home games.

The road team in this series is 5-2 in the last seven meetings and the total has stayed under in four of the last six games. Boston is a perfect 4-0 this season and a dominating 13-1 in the last 14 meetings between the two; however six of the last eight games have been decided by just one goal including all four contests this year.

Senators vs. Bruins- Free NHL Pick

It is hard seeing the Bruins drop a third-straight game especially playing at home, but with Bergeron a game-time decision, the prohibitive money line is not worth the risk. What you can expect in another hard-fought, low-scoring battle between two teams that know each other very well making the free NHL pick in this one on the total line.
