The Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins will close-out the NHL regular season this Sunday night at TD Garden with major playoff implications on the line for both teams.

NHL Picks- Ottawa Senators vs. Boston Bruins

The puck is set to drop at 4 p.m. (PT) and the game will broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network.

Senators Betting Overview

Ottawa dropped a costly 2-1 decision to Philadelphia on Saturday as a 175 home favorite to fall all the way to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. A two-point win on Sunday night would move the Senators into seventh place to set up a first-round matchup against Montreal. If they gain at least one point with a tie, they would square-off against the Bruins in a best-of-seven series. A flat-out loss in regulation would mean a date with Pittsburgh in the opening round, so look for Ottawa to bring its A-game into this contest.

Unfortunately the Senators’ current form would hardly grade out as an A with just one victory in their last four games after reeling-off four straight wins in their previous four outings. The difference has been a struggling offense that has generated a combined five goals in the past four games which is even worse than a very sketchy 2.3 goals-per-game average on the year. Look for Robin Lehner to possibly get the start for Craig Anderson in goal but given that both have a GAA of less than 2.3 this season this game should remain a low-scoring battle no matter who is in goal.

Bruins Betting Overview

The Bruins picked the worst time of the year to fall into a slide with a 2-4-2 record over the past eight games, but just one point on Sunday night would give them the Northeast Division title and the second-seed in the East. They could have wrapped things up on Saturday but lost to Washington 3-2 in overtime as 107 road favorites. The total stayed UNDER the 5.5-goal line and has now stayed UNDER in four of their last five games.

Boston’s recent struggles can be pinned on an anemic offense that has scored no more than two goals in seven of its last eight games. This is after averaging 2.7 goals a game all season long, which is ranked 13th in the NHL. If this drought continues, the Bruins will also have to turn to its goalie to try and manufacture a win. Tuukka Rask has been solid between the pipes all season long with a 1.97 GAA and a save percentage of .930.

Senators vs. Bruins- NHL Betting Odds and Trends

The lines for this game are currently OFF but look for BetOnline to open Ottawa as a 150 NHL odds underdog with the Bruins listed as 165 favorites at home. The total line for this game should be set at 5.

The Senators are 17-38 in their last 55 Northeast Division games and 2-5 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record. The total has stayed UNDER in their last five games on the road.

The Bruins are 10-4 in their last 14 games at home but 1-5 in the third game of their last six 3-in-4 situations. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five home games.

Head-to-head in this divisional matchup, the road team is 5-2 in the last seven meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of the last six games. Boston has won all four meetings this season by a combined four goals. The total stayed UNDER twice and ended as a PUSH in the other two games.

Senators vs. Bruins- Free NHL Pick

This game was originally scheduled to be played on April 15 but was postponed because of the Boston Marathon bombing. At the very least Boston should get the point it needs on Sunday night. However, when I originally handicapped this matchup my free NHL picks was UNDER on the total line and I am sticking with that as the top play this time around as well.
