Our NHL handicapping professional will be covering Game 4 of the playoff series between Montreal and Ottawa on Wednesday. Will Montreal exhibit the killer instinct to put the Senators away and move on?

Montreal and Ottawa back at it on Wednesday for Game 4
The Ottawa Senators will attempt to stave off elimination when they host the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday at 7:05 PM ET. The Senators find themselves in a 3-0 hole by losing three straight one goal games to their Atlantic Division rival, and that includes each of the last two coming by way of overtime. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, Ottawa is a -110 money line favorite for Game 4, and the posted total is 5.0.

Canadiens look to close the Deal
The Montreal Canadiens are on the cusp of a four game sweep in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal playoff series following a 2-1 overtime win at Ottawa on Sunday. It’s not shocking that Montreal is on the verge of advancing, but even the most ardent of Canadiens fans would be hard pressed to admit they expected a four game sweep of Ottawa. After all, the Senators entered the postseason as the hottest team in the NHL, going 21-6 over their final twenty-seven games. With a win on Wednesday, Montreal will move on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the second consecutive year.

Anderson’s effort wasted in Game 3 Defeat
The Ottawa Senators entered the playoffs with arguably the hottest goaltender in the NHL. Andrew Hammond had gone 20-3 against the money line for the Senators since being called up from their AHL affiliate in Binghamton. However, the playoff pressure got the best of him during the two games in Montreal, and he was replaced by former #1 goaltender Craig Anderson for Game 3. Anderson turned in a magnificent performance by stopping 47 of 49 Montreal shots on goal. Unfortunately, his team fell short but it was by no fault of his. Barring something unforeseen, the Senators will come right back with Anderson on Wednesday.

Final Analysis
This series can very easily be a 3-0 lead for Ottawa with a couple of lucky bounces. However, the Senators can’t look back, and must take one game at a time at this point. I look for them to come out with a superb effort and avoid playoff elimination on home ice. I like the team with more desperation in this game for one of my NHL picks on Wednesday.

NHL Pick: Ottawa -110 on the money line over Montreal at Pinnacle.
