The action starts early at 1:00 PM ET with the Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins, as well as the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche squaring off at 3:00 PM ET. The games continue all the way through to the 10:00 PM ET start between the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings.
Carolina Hurricanes @ New York Islanders
The New York Islanders have put together a nice little stretch here as they’ve won three straight and five of their last seven. This comes on the heels of their horrendous stretch where they lost 13 of 14.
The Isles current hot stretch has been quite impressive as they’ve beaten teams like the Bruins in Boston (the Bruins had an eight-game home-winning streak going) and beat the league-leading Chicago Blackhawks.
Carolina has won two straight but prior to that, had lost five straight and eight of nine. They are just six points better than the Islanders in the standings, which is a tad surprising considering how bad the Isles were from the middle of November to the middle of December.
Since we don’t have to pay so much for them, I’ll trust the Isles here for our NHL pick as they’ve been playing well recently.

New Jersey Devils @ Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have yet to win on a Saturday this season (0-10) and I’m going to bet on that continuing. Interestingly enough, the Devils are 8-2 on Saturdays this year.
Getting into the nuts and bolts, the Devils have some quality wins this week, including victories over Pittsburgh and the Islanders, who have been playing pretty well. They’ve been trending upward as they are 5-2-2 in their last nine games.
I expect a good effort from them as they face the hapless Sabres on Saturday, who have lost two straight while being outscored 7-1 in the process. With the price being reasonable, I’ll take a shot with the Devils.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Phoenix Coyotes
The Phoenix Coyotes were one of the better teams in the Western Conference through the first couple months of the year but they’ve now hit a wall. They’ve lost seven of nine with their only wins coming in overtime against Edmonton and Ottawa. Considering they are coming off a 2-0 home loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, they should probably be favored by less than -135 or -140 on Saturday considering a hot Philadelphia Flyers team is coming to town.
The Flyers have won four of five and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. The difference for the Flyers – as it usually is – is their offense. They’ve scored 34 goals in their last nine games while scoring three or more in eight of those nine games.
With the Flyers listed as a road dog in the NHL odds, I’m willing to take a shot with my NHL picks as they’re the team that’s playing better right now.
