Three are below in our shorter rundowns and we’ve got the Edmonton-Toronto and Ottawa-San Jose matchups singled out in their own NHL picks articles.
Record: 14-25 (-769)
Buffalo Sabres @ Chicago Blackhawks
The Buffalo Sabres have proven to be one of the worst teams in the NHL so far this season. People who make their sports picks have not made a profit on this team as they’ve lost all five of their games. Worst yet is how they’ve lost them as the Sabres have been outscored by a margin of 14-5. While they haven’t given up a ton of goals, the concern here is that they’ve only scored five themselves.
On Saturday, they visit the Stanley Cup champs and that figures to be a stiff challenge. While I’m not going to lay the insane NHL odds on the moneyline, I’ll take a shot with the Blackhawks on the puckline. The Sabres are just completely flat these days.

Dallas Stars @ Minnesota Wild
The Wild are just 1-1-2 on the season, which means that in my books, they don’t deserve to be such a big favorite as they are on Saturday night. If you take a look at the odds, the Wild are laying -145 against a Dallas Stars team that they’ll be evenly matched with. Sure, the Wild are at home but they’ve lost two of their three home games this season.
The Stars played on Friday night (and won 4-1 in Winnipeg) and the back-to-back situation is why they are a sizable dog. However, it’s still early in the year and teams are not going to be so fatigued in a back-to-back situation as they would if this was February or March.
Dallas – and goaltender Kari Lehtonen – have allowed just two goals in their last two games and if that solid trend continues, they’ll have a great chance to win in Minnesota.
I just feel the Wild are laying too much juice in this situation. Take a shot with the Stars.

Colorado Avalanche @ Washington Capitals
Do we dare go to the wishing well one more time? The Colorado Avalanche have been a steady bet for us in the early goings this season as they’ve won all four of their games. People making their NHL picks know that that they’ve been one of the most impressive teams in the early goings. What impresses me the most is the fact that the Avs have been so tight defensively. They’ve allowed just three goals in four games, which is the fewest in the NHL.
So many people want to believe that the Capitals are a good team but the truth is that they are only 1-3 on the season. Goaltender Braden Holtby just hasn’t been reliable as he’s 0-3-0 with a 4.04 GAA and a .873 save percentage. Can you really lay juice with the Capitals knowing that he’s what you might have in net?
The Avs are worth a shot in this situation. They are the underdogs and they’ve played better so far this season.
