It’s a somewhat quieter than usual Saturday in the NHL with just 10 games. It’s the second-last Saturday of regular season action, so let’s see if we can stack some chips as the playoffs approach.

NHL Betting: Saturday Picks

Record: 132-151 (-822)

Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators have squared off four times this season three of the games have gone under, so I’m a bit surprised that the total is set at 5.5. People making the NHL odds should take note that Sens goaltender Craig Anderson is actually the league leader in goals-against average. As for the Maple Leafs, they have had some issues in net recently but the Sens are not a high-scoring team.

Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning, so we should see a low-scoring type of a contest here.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada

Phoenix Coyotes at Chicago Blackhawks

The Phoenix Coyotes have completely flopped down the stretch of the season and one more loss will eliminate them from the postseason. I expect that loss to come on Saturday.

The Chicago Blackhawks were upended by the Coyotes in the first round of the playoff last season and they still have that sour result fresh in their memory. They have pounded the Coyotes in their two meetings this season, winning both while scoring 12 goals. They would like nothing more than to kick the Coyotes when their down and snuff out their playoff hopes.

The Blackhawks are playing well these days as they’ve won seven straight. I think they get the win on Saturday, so it’s just a matter of them covering the second goal.

Pick: Blackhawks -1.5 +159 at Pinnacle

Detroit Red Wings at Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks are coming off a sluggish road trip where they finished 1-3, but now they are back at home where they’ve played well. They’ve won six straight at home while covering the puck line four straight times, which is why we’ll add that play to our NHL picks on Saturday.

The Red Wings are a disaster right now as they’ve lost seven of 10. They’ve been a dicey bet on the road this entire season, so it’s tough to trust them here – even with the big payout.

The Red Wings haven’t lost by more than a goal in any of their last four losses, so we’ll need a good effort from the Canucks to get the job done. I think we’ll get that from Vancouver on Saturday.

Pick: Canucks -1.5 +192 at Pinnacle
