Saturday NHL Betting
Here’s a look at our three picks for Saturday:
Record: 76-88 (-748)
Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning
I don’t like Tampa Bay in these types of setups where they are facing a quality defensive team with a good goaltender. Tampa’s strategy is to outscore the other team; there’s no other way. The opponent is definitely going to score because the Lightning’s defense and goaltending are so porous, so it’s just a matter of whether Tampa Bay can keep up. Tampa scores 5.40 per game and allows 2.50 in their wins but scores just 2.00 per game and allows 3.50 in their losses.
At 7-2-2, Montreal is a decent away team and are worth a play as a road dog against a Tampa team that’s lost six of seven.

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes
Based on whom we’re expecting to be between the pipes for this contest – Johan Hedberg for the Devils and Dan Ellis for the Hurricanes – the over makes sense.
New Jersey has been scoring consistently – although not that much – as they’ve scored at least two goals per game in each of their last four. As for Carolina, they should do their part as they average 3.18 goals per game at home, which is the fifth-best home average. Take the over for your NHL picks in this one.
NHL Picks: Over 5.5 at Bodog
Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets
I’m going to take a shot – and I mean a long shot – with the Columbus Blue Jackets. It’s rare that I ever bet this team but Saturday seems like a good spot.
The Blue Jackets have won three straight – believe it or not – as they’ve upped their win total to eight. They’ve played Detroit tough all year as they have a 4-3 shootout loss to them and two one-goal wins. Detroit has just three road wins on the year and I think this is a spot where Columbus just might be worth the price on the NHL odds as a home dog.
