Get ready to make the final week before payday a profitable one as the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the blunted Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Can NHL bettors find any value in this matchup?

It’s cool to be a Penguin, and while these birds may not fly, they certainly can win and most recently they put a severe kink in the Ottawa Senators’ playoff dreams while extending their winning run.

Keeper Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves on his way to collecting his 300th career win Monday as Pittsburgh beat Ottawa 3-1 for their seventh straight win (which also had the effect of  pushing Ottawa into eighth place in the Eastern Conference). This means that the Penguins (35-10-0) have won an amazing 22 of their last 24 games.

Enough with the happy feet...WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

Just before you run down the sportsbooks to throw some money on the Penguins, you should know that it was the Sabres who ended the Penguin’s previous weighty winning streak earlier this month, when they went down 4-1 at home to the Sabres (19-21-6) on April 2, finishing their 15-game winning run.

NHL odds list the Penguins at -162 to win this match in regulation and -250 to win it any which way.

Pittsburgh has the best record in the Eastern Conference, and are just three points behind the Chicago Blackhawks in the race for the Presidents' Trophy with three games left in the regular season. With that being said, it’s no surprise that the Penguins are +400 to win the Stanley Cup.

Buffalo are +209 to win this game any which way, and a draw can be added to your NHL picks at the price of +333.

Buffalo are already out of playoff contention and will be finishing last in the Northeast Division, which is something that they haven’t done since 2003-04.

Too Little Too Late

Buffalo may have won five out of their last nine (since their last trip to Pittsburgh), but they're e also in danger of hitting a three-game slide against the Penguins, after they lost 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday (when the Penguins were busy beating the Sens).

We suggest you back a Penguins victory and that you go for the second period to be the busiest.

Sharp Sabre Thomas Vanek has collected two goals and two assists in his past four games, and got the lone Buffalo goal on Monday and has three goals and three assists in his last five in the series.
