Eyes down for a full house over in Washington when the capitals host the Buffalo Sabres. it'll be a tight clash as Buffalo are fifth in the Northeast and Washington are fourth in the Southeast.

The Stats are pretty close also as Buffalo have 10 wins compared to Washington's 11, Washington have 15 losses compared to Buffalo's 14… However the Sabres have four overtime losses and Washington have just the one.

Numbers Count!

The points couldn't be much tighter either as Buffalo have 24 and Washington have 23. The only stat that shows any real difference between these two sides is the one looking at their last 10 games. Buffalo have won four, lost three and had three overtime defeats in their last 10. For Washington by comparison, it’s a straight win / lose 50-50 split with five victories and five defeats.

Enough with the stats…WHERE’S THE EMONEY MIKE?

Just before I tell you where the money is in this game and like to take a moment to let you know how these two sides are fancied for the Stanley Cup this year. The Washington  Capitals run as high as +8000, that's about the same as the Tampa Bay Lightning, but the Buffalo Sabres are at a top heavy +15000, even if they do run as low as+10,000.

If you think that's depressing, you should know that the Buffalo Sabres are dead last at +12,500 to win the Northeast division while the Washington Capitals are second only to the Florida Panthers as the least fancied side in the Southeast division at +1000. That stat tells you more about the Florida Panthers season than anything else though.

Seriously…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

Anybody who was lucky enough to watch the last match of the Capitals, when they went down 4-1 to the Boston Bruins to start St Patrick's to early on Saturday night will know fine well that they can concede goals. Plus the fact the last time these two sides met the Sabres put two pass them (although they eventually lost the game 3-2).

Both of these sides are averaging a little over three goals per game against and between 2.5 and 2.7 goals scored per game.

But personally your Humble Handicapper going for this game going under 5.5 goals which is offered up by the bookmakers at -135 NHL odds. By comparison over is available at +110.

Where the Buffalo Roam

They tend to lose. The Sabres are a four-game road skid but will be looking to win their second game in eight trips to Washington this Sunday night. It's a very bad form for the Sabres as they haven't come out on top on the road since the end of February, and are 0-2-2 in their most recent four-game away trip.

However, a little bit further back the visitors had a 3-1 victory over Rangers last Tuesday and I'm backing the Buffalo Sabres to do more of the same in this match.

NHL Picks: Sabres win 3-2 available at +1200 with William Hill.
