The Detroit Red Wings need to win and they are in. They sit in seventh in the Western Conference standings but are just one point of Minnesota (eighth) and Columbus (ninth).

NHL Betting: Red Wings vs Stars Picks

If they take care of business, they’ll extend their postseason appearance streak. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars will be trying to alter their fate. That’s all they have to play for as they’ve been eliminated.

Record: 148-163 (-240)

The Detroit Red Wings can win because…

They’ve been playing well and the Stars have not. Detroit enters this meeting as winners of three straight while the Stars come in on a four-game losing streak. Both teams were fighting for their playoff lives but only one has shown urgency.

The Stars have mailed it in over the last couple of weeks, so it’s unclear why anything would change now. The Red Wings aren’t great on the road but the Stars aren’t great at home as they are 11-12 in their own confines.

Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard has gone 4-1-1 with a 1.16 GAA in his last six starts. He should give the Red Wings a good shot to win here.

The Dallas Stars can win because…

They can play spoiler. Detroit has been an inconsistent road team all season long and if there ever was an opportunity for the Stars to help ruin someone’s season, it’s on Saturday when the Red Wings visit.

The Red Wings have lost three of their last four on the road and four of seven. That’s not the type of team you want to be laying juice on the NHL odds with.

Outlook & Pick

The Red Wings have won four of the last five meetings and are playing the better brand of hockey right now. That’s why I’ll add them to my NHL picks on Saturday. They should be fired up with a playoff spot on the line.
