A couple of teams looking to snap losing streaks will collide on the ice Wednesday night when the Detroit Red Wings (12-9-5) meet the Calgary Flames (9-11-4).

NHL Picks: Red Wings vs. Flames in Calgary

Let's look at the NHL odds and how these two teams matchup. The game time is 9:30 PM EST coming in from the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Sportsbooks such as Bookmaker set the NHL money line odds at -110 for both teams, but bettors looking to side with the Red Wings might have the advantage in this one, as Detroit is 5-1 in its last six matchups against the Flames when the game is hosted in Calgary.

The games over/under total is coming in at 5 goals, but the history between these two teams and recent trends suggests we are in store for a low scoring contest. The under is 16-6-4 in the last 26 matchups between these squads when playing in Calgary and four of five overall. Additionally, the Red Wings bring a seven-game under streak with them into this game.

The Red Wings, who have lost the last two times out own an offense that averages 2.6 goals per game (18th) and a power play percentage of 14.4% (25th). On Defense, they are giving up an average of 2.5 goals per contest, which is among the best in the NHL at 9th best.  However, their penalty kill percentage of 79.0% ranks in the bottom half of the league at 20th.

Detroit is only 7-19 in their last 26 games played on the road and 0-4 in their last four games played on two days rest. However, the Red Wings own a very impressive 36-17 record in their last 53 games played against teams from the Northwest.

Meanwhile, Calgary has lost the last three times out, but they are a perfect 4-0 in their last four games played at home.

It won’t be that easy though, especially with their poor defense that surrenders an average of 3.4 goals a game, which ranks 29th in the NHL. Their penalty kill percentage of 77.6% isn’t too much better, ranking 27th in the league. Offensively they are slightly better than the Red Wings, with an average of 2.7 goals scored per game (17th) and a power play percentage of 19.3%, which is good enough for 11th best in the NHL.

While Calgary will be happy to be on their home ice, they are only 2-5 in their last seven games against Western Conference opponents and 1-5 in their last six when they welcome in an opponent with a losing road record.

The Pick

Detroit’s recent success against Calgary might not help them in this matchup. They are a poor road team this season that has won just 3 games all year played away from Joe Louis Arena. On the other hand, Calgary’s losing streak was a result of a three-game road trip and coming back home should give them the momentum in this one. This should push their home winning streak to five games after tonight. Take the Flames for your NHL Picks here.
